Nice video looks like your Iveco is in great condition, in mid-end eighties i drove many miles in a iveco\ Fiat Daily 35-8 and i loved the engine sound from that diesel :) This video brings back that old days, also your little flashback introduction @the begin of this part there is also exactly the same orange coloured pick-up model that owned the company where i was working then. Good to see that there are some early Daily's(MK1) left, and maintained to keep them on the road instead of scrapping them.

Thanks for sharing that experience here Eltar! The video is somewhat dated, so unfortunately I must write that I left the Iveco together with my house 2 years ago. The gearbox soon broke down after the restauration of the engine. Fed up with all the works and running out of time, I had to leave it behind :-( Good news is that here in Southern France you still see them in the streets regularly, I guess they've been sold here quite a lot!

@@Ernie-Tech mine is a 1996 35-8 2.5D and its the crankshaft is damaged. and I've been thinking about switching the engine to a 2.8 turbo but it's a difficult job for me .. the last couple of days I've been cleaning it up ,to move it to a place where i can do some work on her , like start to take the engine out look for a good alternative, because the rest of the van is in very good condition

That is serious, how did you manage to damage the crankshaft, did one of the driveshafts brake? If you 'upgrade' to turbo, you might need a heavier rear axel and shafts as well? I changed my 35-8 rear axel with differential to one of 35-10 (which has this engine) and eventhough it fitted, the whole mounting was considerably heavier/stronger. Especially the shock absorbers mounting points. So consider/inform yourself well if the old 35-8 mechanics will be able handle the extra horse power!

​@@Ernie-Tech I bought it and after two weeks began to make a metal beat inside the engine. when I got home I turned off the engine and then started up again but it does not move anymore, it is completely stuck. people said it is the connecting rod bearings and the crankshaft must be damaged too so I bought another vehicle. but now I decided to restore the iveco completely, that's why I got to this video of yours. But I will take your advice seriously and I will inform myself how I can do to improve the performance of the van without ruining anything else. Thank you so much for the time, attention and advice

I don't want to give you false hope and I do not know how fanatic you are, but my perfectly restored engine still sits in the campervan I left behind 3 years ago when I did a removal and left the old van (with a crashed gearbox) with pain in my heart to the new owners of our farm in the Corrèze (FR). You could try to contact them and offer to rid them of the wreck in turn for a good engine....

Hi sorry to bother you but I'm from the UK and have a sofim 8140 turbo engine and struggling to find any information on these engines here and it looks almost identical to your engine. Are they same a 8140 and yours?

Hi Chris, I'm not an expert and already years without this 35-8, but it might very well be that 8140 stands for the base of the engine, while the extention (like .61 in my case) defines diesel/petrol/turbo etc cause this engine is build into several other manufacturer's cars too! My source of information came from local Iveco dealer and a workshop manual that I ordered from a company in Belgium (specifics are in part 1 or 2 reactions etc). Good luck

@@christophercarson3143 You're welcome Chris, remember that this engine is very standard car technology, so as long as you're familiar with torque wrench and general technical procedures, you're good to open en close it up safely. Getting new parts is the hard bit!

Those metal plates on side of the block. One popped out and I wasn't aware and drove it around 5 miles up and down some hills without any coolent in it so I'm hoping its not caused much damage. I. E rings or block. Once again thank you very much and I'll be watching your other 2 videos too once I get the chance.

sorry I no longer posess this Iveco with the workshop manual. In the video you can see at 1m58 the torque for the headbolts is 40kGM first pass and second 80 to 100kGM, followed by the sequence in the picture. Don't use this for the camshaft bolts. Normally an Iveco Agency can easily supply this although the Sofim 8140.61 engine is quite out of date. Have you found this Sofim number too? It must be identical in order to determine if the torque specs are identical too. Better take your Sofim nr to Iveco agency. Good luck

No, first it broke down with a leaky waterpump, then it broke down again with a broken gearbox. It was right before our removal to the Hérault, so I left it to the new owners of the farm as a place for their guests to stay, cause the camper-part of it was still very nice. Bloody shame for the restored engine that ran very well, but there was simply no time, no money, no sense to continue repairing :-(

Bonjour. Ya no tengo el Iveco 35-8. Por lo que recuerdo, la caja de cambios y el motor deben desmontarse juntos. Si el parachoques puede salir, el desmontaje es mucho más fácil, en mi caso no pudo. Una vez que el motor y la caja de cambios están fuera del Iveco, el desmontaje es muy fácil. Para montar la caja de cambios y el motor, se necesita una herramienta de centrado para los discos de embrague. Lo hice yo mismo, no es tan difícil. Buena suerte. Hi Dorel (or is Taran your first name?), I did not use markers but in my engine I had bolts stuck trough the wheels into the engine where special openings and threads are made for that purpose. If you make a real "misser" with the belt, normally one of the valves jams on the pistons (therefor you should always overturn manually the crankshaft a few turns after reinstalling the belt) or your engine would run but very noisy and poorly. I do recall the pulley on the crankhaft had an unclear marking. You need a real clean engine and bright light to find it. Maybe I have some detailed photos from that job, let me know if you can't work it out. Good luck!

fume dans la vase d'expansion, vois deuxième part. Refait culasse et bloc de cilindre, remplacé qqs soupapes avec tout les ressorts et voilà resolvé :-)
