Banks have minimums or they will charge you or shut down your account. It takes every single penny to make it monthly. Nebraska says I make too much money for snap benefits or other help. But I'm lucky. My grandkids and son and daughter live in town and give me rides when I need them. Family is everything.

People like Pumps need to understand that a vendor or retailer has to pay a fee for a financial service to accept a credit card or phone payment. So if you want a 3 dollar hot dog and use a card the vendor is losing money to sell you that. Be considerate and help out the small business by using cash on any sale of less than 5 dollars. Better yet 10 dollars or they are not making enough money to stay in business.

The best wedding I EVER attended was "advertised" as a summer party, Hawaiian themed in these people's beautiful back yard. We got there, in shorts & Hawaiian shirts, there was food, alcohol, music, dancing, just a party! At a certain point, the groom asked for everyone's attention & announced that we were actually attending a wedding! These people were in their late 50's, they needed nothing, so they didn't want gifts, they just wanted friends & family. After the very short, sweet ceremony, the party resumed. It was fabulous!!

I hate the phrase "Children are starving in Africa." There were Africans surviving and thriving in Africa before there were white people there to document it. Did they have marble castles? No. Are there starving children there? Yes. It's sure as hell not because food is scarce. They know how to farm perfectly fine. The conflicts, apartheid, civil wars, poverty, and capitalism are the reason why kids go hungry. While that will always be the case and all we can do is try to make the world a better place every day, I still really enjoy having a community where we can share grievances and feel heard and like we are not alone in the struggles that we are facing… Especially as either women, or Democrats or just Americans that are freaked out about where we are headed. I got married at 23, still married, I married the best man I’ve ever known. But damn do we both regret making such a big deal out of our wedding and throwing such a production. With the money we spent we could’ve been homeowners instead.

Hallelujah!! I don't mean to always be a stick in the mud but, I mention all the time to people getting married, and starting to plan a big expensive wedding, that in this environment they could use that $$ for/toward a house, or put it into their retirement fund. Simply because I think that 10 to 15 yrs. later they'll most likely wish they had.

I am 50. I went to the thrift store and bought a 1000 piece puzzle for my parents so the kids and I can do it with them over Christmas. $5 and no texts, no drama, no burden on the environment.

Weddings. My theory has always been- the more $$$ spent, the shorter the marriage. The most fun my husband and I ever had at a wedding? Our son’s. Honestly. A weekend on a nearby island, farm-like setting, 65 people, immediate family only- no children, no cousins-6 family members from our side, 7 from hers- the rest very close friends of bride & groom. No bridesmaids. No groomsmen. Our son’s toast began with: Each and every one of you are here because we love you and YOU are our Wedding Party. Pre-wedding barbecue the eve before, Married in the forest, classy Taco truck catered with full service( was amazing). Dancing under the stars until 11 PM. After changing into festival style clothes, it ended with Silent Disco until the wee hours in a giant yurt-like domed structure with light show. Best time ever.❤️
