Thank you for uploading the recital. I am delighted to see that he has it in him to give pleasure. After a long period of playing with eccentricities and distortions that made disturbing listening, his playing has returned to a healthier approach to performing. I don't mind the "rebel" aspect of not conforming to performance etiquette, it's the performance that counts. Love for music is what is being communicated here, and so I say bravo Ivo!

The great musician holds himself in reserve, and yet still in complete freedom without the least desire to show off. He lets the Music speaks for itself. Beauty arises natually. Authentic and senza "ego"

Thank you, Claudio; this is a treasure. Like with so many other pieces, Ivo brings in new life, uncovers new, hidden dimensions. Sadly, many people fall short of understanding and appreciating his playing.

I remember his appearances in London in the mid-1980s and he always wrapped up, as though chilly, whenever off the platform - sometimes in those colourful scarves to look trendy! Of course he played from memory then, and was never too disposed towards audiences. I always felt he was doing us a favour, not that he appreciated our attendance. Rarely looked really contented or happy, he epitomised the struggles of the artist. Strikingly handsome back then, and I say that as a straight bloke. An enigma of an artist.

I really like Pogorelich's choice of tempo in these works. Stately, relaxed, and unrushed throughout! I've heard many other recordings of the Symphonic Etudes and the Chopin Sonata that sound so rushed and frenetic...with barely a moment to breathe!

In the early 80s in Pescara he was playing Beethoven's Sonata op. 31 n. 2. At the beginning of the first movement he noticed that there was a guy with a tape recorder. Well, at the end of the first movement he stopped, left the stage and demanded that the man with the tape recorder be thrown out! More than 10 years later, again in Pescara, he began the recital with Mozart's Fantasy in D minor and instead of concentrating on the music he started looking left and right in the front rows of the parterre 😂

Он был первым, кто предчувствовал беду нашего, 21-го века: отныне каждый "слушатель" может записать гениального музыканта на низкокачественный аппарат типа мыльницы и потом выложить в интернет. И этим буквально опозорить музыканта!

it seems he's sight reading.

He is.
@vcliburn10 сағат бұрын
@@edwindepianist Well, he's not actually "sight reading" the music, per se, because he already knows these works intimately by heart. But like many other concert artists who prefer to use the score, he wants to stay focused on the details, including his own notations...phrasing, dynamics, etc. In fact, if he wanted to, I'm sure he could very easily perform these works purely by memory.
@vcliburn10 сағат бұрын
No, he's not really "sight reading" the music. See my response to "edwindepianist" below.
@lockjiang8 сағат бұрын
@@vcliburn No, it's obviously sight-reading, the speed of reaction is obvious, it's so slow, that he playing can't be anything else but the result of sight-reading. If you have the score in your heart, the result won't be like this. The same goes to the late S. Richter, but he is a much better sight-reader.
@vcliburn7 сағат бұрын
@@lockjiang Yes, I hear you. But again, it all depends on exactly what you mean by "sight reading". These works have been a long-standing part of Pogorelich's repertoire for YEARS. He already knows these pieces by heart. Regarding tempo: His very stately, relaxed, and unrushed tempo throughout shows how deeply focused he is on the "details" of the score...phrasing, dynamics, his own hand-written notations, etc. If he wanted to, he could very easily perform these pieces by memory...but chose not to! Pure "sight reading" is when you NEED the score in order to play the piece...because you don't already know the piece.

It doesn´t help any musician to put such bad sounding recordings on a public platform, its an utterly unmusical behaviour.
@claudiopioriccopiano4 күн бұрын
Well, that's true, but I think that would only apply for a pianist that is not so well-known, because anyone that has listened to Pogorelich's studio recordings knows how great he is. I'm not gonna debate on this topic though, because what you say is totally valid and understandable. What I can say is that I uploaded this video with the purpose of documenting something that would've been otherwise lost forever. You could think that this recording only does a disservice to the artist, and that could be, but I can assure you that it wasn't the intention here.

Sorry but I've never heard such crap in my life. Research Argerich Racmaninov 3 with Rostropovich - a beautiful performance with sound that could only be described as appalling (and there are thousands of others I could name). And yet, those who weren't at the concert can now get the chance to hear that electrifying performance for themselves. It is the same with Ivo. I personally cannot afford to fly thousands of miles to hear his concerts so I am grateful that they are put onto KZbin. Would you say that people shouldn't post early Horowitz recordings because they are of bad sound quality? You say it is unmusical to post this - I totally disagree with you if this type of post brings these wonderful concerts to a wide range of people
