In all honesty,I know the Maori language, but sadly,I do not know the culture so well. You were lucky growing up with the culture! Hawaiians seem to be very close with Maori people and they seem to share some similarities which is absolutely awesome. This song is contagious and i can't get it out of my ear.For some reason this gentleman in particular caught my eye, probably for the Maori dance.Glad to have your reply back!! ;)

Aloha mai, I was wondering if this is the real transcription. The subtitles are pulling from Kumu Lake’s original version, but I feel like they slightly edited the song for tempo, cause I think what he’s actually chanting in the beginning (and again in the middle) is ʻŌiwi ē, ʻōiwi e…e kāhea ana e nā iwi e…this is a slight difference, but without it those two added syllables, trying to learn what they’re chanting from this video has been maddening.
