This is why I love being an Australian. We don't take ourselves too seriously, know how to have a good laugh, we all have a Master's Degree in Taking The Piss Out of Everyone and are training up the next generation to continue these great Aussie Traditions. As I sit here a couple of days before Christmas in the Beautiful South East Queensland it is 5 O'clock special time. The thunderstorms have been knocking us for a 6 almost every day this week and they normally hit around 5pm just when most people are starting to come home from another hard day counting down the hours until it is the traditional 1 to 2 week great Christmas to New Years Office shut down. This afternoon's storm is looking like a really bad one if the Thunder that is currently overhead is anything to go by. Wish you and the family a Very Merry Christmas and an amazing 2024. I also now want to get a Wombat for Christmas. Pity they grow into very fat, heavy, aggressive little ancle biters.

I think it’s funny how certain words mean different things. In Australia, thongs are flip flops, not G strings. A fanny is a vagina, not a butt. A rubber is an eraser, not a condom. Pissed is drunk, not angry. When I lived in America, the first few months were very amusing conversations 😂 Even when I said it’s spitting outside, people looked at me like I had two heads…spitting means sprinkling rain.

A remark - In the opening segment, with Karl Stefanović "losing it", he gets a response from the girl, to his Ugg Boot comment that "This is my MUFF". I am pretty damn sure he is laughing so much because he is thinking of the Aussie slang word meaning for Muff. The Muff refers to a ladies' front 'naughty' bit. Another nickname is "The Map Of Tassie (pronounced ta-zz-ie). So you can see why the poor bloke lost it when she said what she did.

That squirrel video....we don't have squirrels in Australia. Except my Perth born significant other says we do. I'm from Melbourne. Apparently, the Perth squirrels escaped from the Zoo, and are now all over the place. I looked it up, and she's 100% right, and I 100% apologised. In Melbourne we have had Asian tourists bussing up to our parks after nightfall in Summer to feed and photograph our native squirrels and monkeys for many years. These are of course, native marsupial ringtail possums. Also having been to USA, Canada and the UK, I have seen a few squirrels in my travels. I tried to tell my darling how cute squirrels are....that's how I found out about the Perth Squirrels. I may have been a been a bit of a hardwood deck explaining to her that there are no squirrels in Australia. This is why the scientific method is important, and why you need to acknowledge when you are wrong.

In the end he looked like what we called The Old Bill! Yes, we are Australian. For his own wedding, he wore jeans and work boots, what I thought might be a flanno but turned out to be a checked cotton long sleeve shirt, a large piece of Boulder Opal that I had bought him a few years prior around his neck, beard and hair neat and tidy with the hair tied up at the back, and a leather cowboy hat. Wife wore traditional white wedding gown, looked absolutely gorgeous, and my 30yo trucker son cried all the way through the ceremony. He's all Aussie, but more kiwi culturally. And my husband, now in his 70s, refuses to go to a modern barber as he doesn't want to be cool. What can a woman do?
