Australian driving culture top tips: Always drive 10km/h over the speed limit. Always sit in the right (fast lane) when going slow. Never have common courtesy and allow others to merge 1 for 1. Swear like a trooper. Blame everyone else for you bad day. Act as though you own the road and no-one else has the right to share it with you. And finally, drive it like you stole it and you're doing Bathurst.
@Araknis_Slade3 жыл бұрын
You're a little misleading with the first bit. It should read "always get pissed off at people that aren't driving 10 km/h over the speed limit because they're driving too slow" but yes, 10 km/h over the speed limit is indeed the correct speed to travel at.

Don't know HOW MANY TIMES I've instructed, gently, a male driver in WHY IT'S IMPORTANT TO INDICATE YOUR INTENTIONS on the road. "But there's no one behind me!!" they exclaim. Yes, honey, but sometimes there's someone BESIDE you, or in front of you, and they want to know what the heck you're doing too. That is, if they're a good driver, they'll be keeping an eye on their rear view mirror, because...amazingly...sometimes they want to change lanes too. And they'd like to know your tailgating doesn't end up a side swipe. Just indicate. How hard is that? Even if no one is around. Indicate. Get the habit. Sheesh.

Broadly well traveled but particularly in terms of my ten years in the States: Driving on the other side of the road is not that dificult if you're a decent driver. At first you don't make to many mistakes because you're hyper alert and ontop of it. Where it gets you is you just randomly screw up once every couple of years out of the blue when you're not paying attention. Especially intersections. Its really easy to turn down the wrong side of the road. Same thing goes for walking up to the car with your keys out and realizing you're just about to open the passenger door when you meant to get into the drivers seat and then feeling like a huge idiot and hope no one saw. Lol.

I live in Perth and have been learning to drive, I have my practical driving test in three days. It's generally well established that Perth drivers don't know how to merge, and they sit in the overtaking lane for long-haul drives. A friend from Sydney was telling me that when she moved to Perth it was a driving culture-shock because everyone in Sydney drives quickly and efficiently and decisively because they're all busy and trying to get places, whereas Perth is slightly more laidback but that slowed decision-making and hesitation on the road can cause worse driving. Obviously still selfish fast drivers here too though

You need to look at vids that involve Australian roadtrains vs. tourists towing caravans. They have no idea of overtaking overlengh vehicles, exceeding 80 metres long in certain states, nor correct loading principles of caravans, leading to spectacular but terminal speed wobbles, either self terminating or frontal impact with the prime mover. Personally been involved in several and hundreds of near misses. Driving a truck thru a caravan or trailer that has rolled, dislocated or braked in front of you, as in Mad Max, is always exhilarating!! Truck always wins. The birds are cockatoos eating grass seed. The Merc Ute was a failed experiment by Mercedes Benz. It's just a Nissan Navara ute with panel and interior upgrades. Known as 'badge engineering'. Now discontinued. 👍👍🇦🇺

the irony of him saying we get to see UTE's every day when he lives in a country full of F150's and RAM 1500's.

6:02 I could be wrong but it looked like a portable barbecue fell off that vehicle. 7:34 This is on a section of divided road (I'm not sure what the American term is. Dual carriageway?). It's not easy to see because there's a very wide nature strip between the lanes running in opposite directions, and in this video segment the lanes for the opposite direction are not visible at all until 7:41. The Audi driver is driving at speed on the wrong set of lanes - extremely dangerous. 13:07 They might be sulphur-crested cockatoos but again it's difficult to tell for certain because of the video quality. Can't tell what part of the country this segment was recorded in either.

Just recently (two days ago), I barely drove 5 minutes and had to deal with two idiots on the road. One guy was going 90 in the 70 zone, the other swapped lanes directly in front, at a traffic stop, while the light was green and brake checked us. Just full on stopped at the green light.

Visited my brother in Ecuador one year. As you'll probably know they drive like you guys in the US. The driving in Ecuador is scary! I did not drive, my brother did, but going around roundabouts was hard to take. I never got used to it. I've also driven in NZ and that can be worse than Australia! We had one of those small trucks (not a ute) pull onto the road right in front of us. We were doing 100kph as that was the speed limit. We stopped in time but I did wish we'd had a parachute to throw out too!!!

@IWrocker A few road rules of Aust.; Double whites (center lines) - No passing/crossing. Solid white line, usually before/after a merge - hold your lane for safety. Mercedes truck is a rebadge VW truck. The bicycle that nose dived, it's illegal to 'ride' a bicycle over a pedestrian crossing - so karma. Most of their road rules are the same here in NZ.

First time I, as an Aussie, drove in the US I didn't have any problems with intersections because I mostly followed the traffic ahead of me. But, I did have the weirdest experience with eye contact with other drivers at intersections and driveways etc. I either had no contact at all or I had completely puzzled looks from the other "driver". Later that day I realised I wasn't looking at the driver, I was looking at the passenger.

I saw a place near where I live! Ps. A Ute is also what Americans would call a truck which in includes the specific model of Holden you keep pointing out

Really fun video. I love dash cam videos from around the world. Those white birds are cockatoos. It is pretty easy driving in Australia just Sydney and Melbourne are the hardest due to population and always road works and young hoons thinking they are in GTA or Tokyo drift some even will do drags in metro Streets during heavy traffic. Ive had near misses with hoons racing through red lights. I like the European dash cam the super expensive sports cars that they can't control

@7:45 The oncoming car was on the wrong road, if you look, over to the right you can see another 2 lanes of traffic for the "oncoming" traffic. Also, one thing that the US does right when it comes to traffic, is when an emergency vehicle is around, everyone stops and pulls to the side. That should be the law everywhere.
@Kayenne543 жыл бұрын
I believe it is, here in Australia. If safe to do so, get off or pull over. However, if there is a huge drainage ditch on the left...two lanes chock full...sometimes it's impossible to get off the road or out of the way. I've been stuck (far left lane) with a curb and a power pole and nowhere to get off (regular car, not high clearance four wheel drive). Couldn't go out further into the intersection because that just makes a traffic jam and I don't trust people not to try and "quickly get through because they can clearly see an emergency vehicle coming and want to beat it"... So stuck. If they don't construct emergency vehicle lanes (and older built up areas don't have the room to do so) then in high density traffic, emergency vehicles just have to wend their way through as best they can. Because the guy beside me couldn't get much closer to me either. Not always possible to pull off to the shoulder and get out of the way. Hence "safely" is the key word.

Another top channel to watch is Scotts car cameras as in a lot of his videos he puts in text explaining the road rule that's being broken in that particular clip.

The hardest part (by far) driving on a different side of the road to what you are used to is roundabouts. We have lots here in Australia!
@michaelmclachlan16503 жыл бұрын
Roundabouts cause problems to US drivers period as they're not that common. Some places also have or used to have traffic circles where you give way to traffic entering!

When someone turns the wrong way on an intersection, you can bet that they’re drivers from Europe or the US. Similarly, Aussie drivers in America have been known to be momentarily confused in the same situation and turned into the wrong side of the road. But our language is much more colourful than yours , so there ! Cheers from Downunder 👍🇦🇺🇺🇸

As someone from the UK these roads and parking spaces are so massive and the roads so empty I can't comprehend how people are still this bad!. I imagine if they were here in the uk, just getting out of a parking lot would be like a demolition derby!

I'm Australian so dont hate on me. Australias rarely care about others. Most Aussies will tell you otherwise, but it's bullshit. As for the burnouts, I love em, I may or may not be fairly involved in doing them. But, me and all my friends are careful to make sure we aren't endangering anyone, some people aren't so kind tho
