The biggest issue with this series is the fact that it goes nowhere. It has insane art, an interesting basic premise of reversing roles and his "curse", but then does nothing but slice of life with no progression really. I'd love to see this art and premise with another plot.

don’t mean to speak for someone else, but my perspective is that it’s creating unrealistic relationship and partner standards since things like this usually don’t happen in real life. it leaves you with false senses of reality and your expectations can be really damaging for a person in their own relationship if they keep comparing it to things like this. not to say this is impossible, it’s just highly unlikely.

It’s rather because people know it’s (I don’t like how you used unrealistic so I’ll go with unlikely like you ended with) unlikely to happen. It’s just a feel good type of thing. And it’s honestly pretty healthy through dopamine which staves off depression. Also if a person expects the best for themselves without bordering on pretentious or being an bad dude about it. I think the thing that really differentiates Shikimore from most other romance anime is it focusses on the joy of love rather than the drama leading up to love. If find this refreshing, and Shikimori has surprisingly become on of my favorite anime. But I can see how some could be disappointed if they were hoping for the more traditional type.
