J Class Regatta Newport 2011 Day 2

t2p was up in Newport, RI for the J Class Regatta where Velsheda and Ranger went head to head match race style. 130 feet, 200 tons worth of boat times 2 with a history to match them.
We produced 30 minute shows for TV, but we aired a 15 minute version for www.t2p.tv. Check out all of the shows there, this is day 2 of the regatta.

JK7 Velsheda (named for William Stephens daughters, Velma, Sheila and Daphne) is an original 129 foot 143 ton steel 1933 racing yacht built by Camper and Nicholsons though she now has a 173' carbon mast and carbon rigging. J5 Ranger is a replica of the 1937 Ranger, she was built in 2003 of aluminium and has a 177' carbon mast. Both masts by Southern Spars of New Zealand.

@SailGroove894 "Ate" as in "hate"? The Johnstone J series of boats (22,24, 80, 105, 111, 120, etc.) have nothing to do with these J Class boats, it's just a coincidence in name.
