Recap - J Class World Championship 2017

We take a look back at the first ever J Class World Championship that was held in Newport, Rhode Island in August 2017. Six J Class yachts - Hanuman, Lionheart, Ranger, Svea, Topaz and Velsheda raced over five days and seven races with just one boat being crowed the J Class World Champion 2017...

Oh Lord, that are the beauties on the oceans, no other ships on this planet are so wonderful. I love this class with all of my heart. It is a very very fine feeling to see them under sails.That is awesome. I wish that some boat builders let us don´t forget this class and builds some new, for us , for our children and all the next generations.This ships are a important part of the human history.

It’s too bad we didn’t get to see any racing of the J Class. Little snippets no more. Compared to Americas cup now these boats are very slow but they are beautiful and exciting to watch. I would have liked to seen some actual racing.

the original boats were gaff rigged, topsail & 3 head sails.

@@grantlemmon2756 this is only true for the pre-J class boats (1928 and older) in 1930 they introduced the Universal Rule which brought about the Bermuda rig setup which all J-class ships were built with. There were however a few boats converted to J-class which did have a gaff rig but all of the boats designed as J-class were designed with a Bermudan rig.
