My issue is the fact that stans are taking this track and RUNNING with it. No, this is not a diss track by ANY means. Criticizing somebody and telling them their strengths and weaknesses is NOT by any means a diss track. I agree with BOTH Cole and Noname on the situation though. Noname is taking more of an aggressive, no bullshit approach to her activism. She’s calling for her fellow celebrities to be openly vocal, and she’s obviously upset at white oppression and all those things. However, she can get too aggressive to a fault, and that leads to a lot of radical views being egged on as fact. This, will obviously deter other people from her activism, and the fact that she said some not so savory things about white fans is a fault as well. Cole on the other hand takes a softer approach to activism. He lets his actions speak LOUDER than his words, and he encourages people to educate and be kinder to others. This is obviously important, because people will believe a cause more if it’s presented more nicely. However, the fault with that is the unnecessary plight that black people have to educate white people (NBPOC pretty much understand racial oppression, discrimination, institutionalization) on topics that they should be knowledgeable of. Black people aren’t arbiters of our history, and we’re not obligated to teach white people how to fix a problem their ANCESTORS created. I think that we need to give people proper resources to educate THEMSELVES, and be open to an honest and respectful discussion, because generalizing white folk (and to a lesser extent, cops) will only be damaging. Though, we’re not obligated to entertain any blatant discrimination or racial gaslighting, nor are we obligated to educate anybody. Overall it was an enjoyable track, and I feel as if people taking this as a diss obviously haven’t listened to a legitimate diss. I related to the supposed “Noname” part of the song (even though this might not even be about Noname!) and it made me reflect on how I analyze this situation from now on. Overall great track, can’t wait for the new album! Cole World

Toni Odejimi love your point of view. But I just wanna add one thing. I feel like noname and a few other activists like her have a superiority complex. They act like they have some secret knowledge and act better than others because they know more. And if you do know something else that’s dope, but please share it with us because we’re all fighting for the same thing and instead of acting as a unit we’re too busy tearing each other down instead of getting something meaningful done.

He is a voice to speak up for the ppl. Yes I think he should become more educated like he admitted in the track. To me this is not a black woman v black man issue, this is a educated blk community vs lesser educated blk community argument. This is an interesting perspective, it's different from what I took away from the song. I felt like "she" spoke as if she knew all the answers about how to help our community. Cole sees this, and acknowledges that she has more answers then him, but is frustrated bc instead of helping the ppl who need it she's telling the ppl who already understand. I think Cole IS trying to learn more information, and he's trying to help the ppl in the community who need it, but he seems like it's never enough. I'm cool with this song cuz I feel like it's a letter to the more privileged black folks to have all hands on deck to help our community

I think it’s Venus and cole singin, cole added heavy reverb to sound distant and create this like space of like singin along with someone from a distance without them realizing it, I think that’s what the ending reperesented, like he singing the same songs we sing using that as we’re fighting the same fight no matter whether you can tell he there he’s fightin in his own space. I know you just wanted to know who’s singin but yeah I’m long winded. I know Venus voice after hearin spillage village end dayz.

Nah, i think you guys are missing part of the point. He is saying he agrees with her message, in that she is pleading with black men to support black lives in totality- black trans men and women and black homosexuals. He agrees with her push towards these things. Here is where you guys are getting confused. The point of the song is in no way taken out because he says he agrees- That is the whole point- She has a message but she beats all black men over the head with it, rather than convey her message in a way that comes across as "i want to insult you and fight you so you see my perspective and change your behavior". J Cole is saying that her delivery is a turn off because it would never captivate the men who need to hear the message. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this song and to call him misogynistic and accuse him of gaslighting, is silly and a massive reach at best. It is mainly black feminists who are spewing this nonsense because, in today's world, a man is not allowed to offer constructive criticism to any women, lest he be accused of being a male chauvinist pig, who wants to tell women they should always be silent. I call BS!!!!

I didnt knew who ‘noname’ was before this track. I looked into her and she just seems like one of those extra “woke” people on twitter, and those types of woke people love bashing the people who are not as informed as much as she is. I saw her going at every celebrity on why they not “tweeting” about blm as if they’re some prophets and their opinion on this situation needs to be heard. Whether its right or wrong but everyone is entitled to their opinions, whether they wanna speak about a certain topic or not. With some people its better for them to stay shut rather than saying something and causing more attention away from the subject.

She’s done a lot of work lol. Dismissing her as just a woke person which what even does that mean. She was dragged on the tl for being ignorant and decided to educate herself. She runs a book club etc to help educate others, especially in prisons to help others gain access to the knowledge in spaces where they can discuss the ideas. All of you people who are completely dismissing her work are gross. Just because you don’t know her doesn’t mean she’s not doing activism. She didn’t grow up in a woke environment, she doesn’t have a college degree etc.
@qasimm3484
@qasimm3484 4 жыл бұрын
Roda Mo Thanks for that info, but i never dismissed any of the work. Thats great news that shes out there being a leader to those who need help. In this particular matter, it all started with her tweeting about why these rappers who their fans claim as activists arent out there protesting. And then later deletes those tweets (which she does alot) after seeing cole and kendrick out protesting. What my point in all this is that they don’t have to be out there, they dont have to tweet to support this matter. All their lives they experienced and witnessed what every black man has to go through. Just repeating what everyones saying on twitter doesn’t cause anything. As a Muslim i been shouting on twitter about killings in Palestine, Syria, Kashmir, China, crisis in Yemen. But tweeting doesnt do anything. Especially on topics like blm, everyone knows what happened with Floyd was wrong (only mentioning one name out of many others just because the recent protests started because of him). Cole or Kendrick wouldn’t cause a difference by tweeting if thats what Noname is looking for.
@rodamo9237
@rodamo9237 4 жыл бұрын
Qasim M i disagree about tweeting doesn’t do anything. We need a variety of methods to get things done. People to tweet petitions, people on the street, people contacting their local politicians etc. I don’t think saying twitter is useless is fair. There are people who have to use online methods to support the causes (donations, petitions, emailing politicians, sharing information and advice on twitter) because we are in a pandemic, they may be working as a key worker or have loved ones who they live with who are very at risk. She didn’t say their names, but I get why she tweeted what she tweeted. Like a little retweet of a petition for Breonna Taylor etc could do a world of good with the sizes of their platforms. Like making a tweet is easy and I disagree that tweets don’t do anything. You can use twitter to organise for protests, use it to share information etc. My issue with the song is the timing. Like just how no one would drop a track after the murder of George floyd begging for someone to be patient with them as they learn to be a better ally, I think Cole should’ve read the room better about what kind of song he should drop. Like his song even if people fight about it not being directed at no name (lol he tweeted it was) is directed at black women. Which I don’t think is fair, like black women are always the ones at the front lines fighting for black men etc. And he takes the time to complain about her tone? Like that’s a thing black women are constantly told off for. Like they’re not allowed to be angry or tired etc like anybody else. And if you’re not educated but like Cole have all the resources at your disposal what’s the excuse not to continue to work on your self growth? I think respectability politics is always used against black women to silence them and that’s why people were upset. I can continue to elaborate if you want. like I wouldn’t claim only using twitter would get change done but in the U.K. some of the vital reopening/external examinations of cases like Shukri Abdi were due to online campaigning via twitter. (People contacting their local politicians). I do think within the movement there is an issue of forgetting about the female victims of police brutality in campaigns. It becomes a focus on only the male victims of police brutality when we should of course be remembering every black victim of police brutality. And that there is an example of misogynoir

I get it your review of the song and I kinda agree, but I think it just hurt because when he did speak up, the first thing he chose to do was to criticize someone that fights a similar fight. Using so many verses to speak against her conduct instead of using it to address the “ greater evil” of this all, makes him sound tone deaf to what so many black women face but that’s me

Well no he did it a different way. You can’t bash people, separate yourselves from them and throw shade at them heavily then in the same breath turn around and say those are the people you’re trying to save. You can’t act like you’re so much better than other people because you’re more knowledgeable about a particular thing and they aren’t. Insulting someone isn’t going to provoke change, bashing them isn’t going to provoke change either. You have to come at them from an understanding point and try to make them see it from your point of view.
