J. Cole drops his highly anticipated Album titled THE OFF SEASON, after a few listens it ultimately feels like crumbs from a great 5 star meal to come in the future.
J. Cole - The Off Season Full Album
1. “95 South
2. “Amari”
3. “My Life”
4. “Applying Pressure”
5. “Punchin’ The Clock”
6. “100 Mil'”
7. “Pride Is The Devil”
8. “Let Go My Hand”
9. “Interlude”
10. “The Climb Back”
11. “Close”
12. “Hunger On Hillside”
Best Tracks - 95 South/Applying Pressure/My Life/Close/Let Go My Hand
There are technically no "worst" tracks imo, just some really pointless/boring ones.
Have a great day & thanks for watcing!

I felt the same way. I think that’s what happens when you have preconceived expectations of what the music should sound like. I think this taught me to listen more objectively and let cole just express himself in any way he can. He exemplified many different cadences and flows and also means of wordplay that was outstanding. He said it himself how difficult it is for him to put substance into something in a world so used to instant gratification. Shit like this grows on you.

I notice for certain rappers he aint crazy about he will nitpick lines and criticize their subject matter, Like for example I fuck with Denzel Curry, But his last album ZUU wasn't all that IMO, And I thought this new Cole joint was great compared to it, But Shawn being a big Curry fan was totally vibing with that album, And the lyrics on it were mostly freestyles talking about where he's from, Things that happened to him growing up. Shawn didnt question it, He just went with it cause Denzel sound good. Fair. But here Cole puts out this album and talks about where he's from and things that happened to him, And Shawn ain't even nod his head, Just sitting there looking bored & Is soo busy trying to dissect his lyrics to find any significance to it that can validate anything Cole says as interesting material, Meanwhile soon as 21 or Baby come in with there verse, He's rocking with it all the sudden, Like what immediately makes them more interesting than Cole that you go from sitting still bored to movin around vibing lol

@@skankhunt-bd4zv maybe because of the way curry say things, dude’s raspy and almost angry voice is very different to coles chill and laidback voice, does that mean that cole can’t go in that mode? No, but when he does the subject matter isn’t what he’s looking for. It’s a bit weird to compare to curry and cole especially about someone’s opinion about them because he ain’t thinking about that. Shawn will always bring up these comparisons when it comes to mind like “man, person could’ve done something better” because he’s sees it that way. It’s also possible to change what you will see in artists. Remember when he LIKED wlr, dude didn’t like carti at all before that album, now he is listening to some songs of that album and adjusted his opinion on carti from having no potential to having something he could work with. I ain’t saying Shawn is 100% right, but some criticism can be reasonable and honestly worth noting. But you could always disagree with it and just enjoy the music that cole dropped ain’t nobody stopping you.

Appreciate your critiques. They're well articulated and seem genuine. Although I feel very different from parts of your overall opinion - I still appreciate the personal insight. Agree with you on the limitations his ultra relatability (The fact that he appears as just an everyday guy, observing) possesses on the abstract creativity of the content. Kinda like Non-fiction novels, as powerful as they can be - they'll never take your imagination as far as fiction would. Not to say one is better than the other, it's just preference that splits the opinion at the end of it all. For myself. I don't mind either and Cole has come a long way with music, methodically. So I'm pretty proud of this record and I happen to love most of the instrumentals so that helped a lot. P.S: Drake my favourite artist ever but I happen to find him around the same time I found Cole and Kendrick so I'm big fan of all of them fortunately.

As someone completely outside of the rap/hiphop culture, just someone watching through reactions of a dope album i found out about, this dude really comes of as the kind of dude who tries super hard to prove themselves through critiquing others. Every time hes says the songs are boring and lack emotions and especially in the end where he tries to use big word to sound smart when he says things like j cole doesnt have a good persona and that hes too relatable to be exciting and that he wants to hear less thoughtful more hype stuff just flaunting and shit like dafuq? This guy really just misses alot of what cole is saying, like when he even tries to sum of what the song is about he reveals just how shallow his comprehension is, like he misses what almost everyother reactor has picked up on and ive literally just browsed youtube for the last two days watching reactions to different songs on the album as well as complete reviews.

I love listening to Shawns views and opinions about j Cole. He brings up some good points, but overall I don’t think he truly understands who Jermaine Cole is. To understand the significance of this album you’d have to know a lot of his old music. “The Come Up”, “The Warm Up”, and “Friday Night Lights” are so important to the see the growth and story of his life. The Off-Season is another part of this story. I love how a few of the songs are reflections to his past, and some are completely new parts of Cole we’ve never seen. I mean he got out of his comfort zone and put lil baby and 21 on his album. And you know he doesn’t care about the sales or plays, he just wanted to try something new. Even though I’m not a big fan of auto tune Cole, I completely respect him for trying it. I also don’t think it’s fair to judge this album solely by itself. The previous works I mentioned before are important, but also the fact that this album is a prequel for the fall off. I love how his career is one giant story of his dreams and passions. He made his dream of rapping come true, but he’s still chasing his basketball dream. I think a lot of people missed this part. Overall I really enjoyed this album and what he brought. I don’t think he could’ve done much more in this project. But that does mean I’m expecting him to follow up with some heat on “The Fall Off”. If I judged this album by itself I would either give it a 7.5 or an 8. But knowing all of his music and what this adds to his life story I would give it an 8.5 or a 9. It doesn’t come close to FHD which is a 10, but not every album can be a 10.

He was harsh but It’s really a stretch to say that there’s a pretence required to enjoy the body of art, knowing it can make you appreciate it more sure but it can’t be the driving force or what’s missing per say in ones experience. That’s not how music is. And realistically you don’t know Jermaine cole either you just have an outside perspective on him. Just how I feel though

@@simulatedheartbreak I think you’re missing my point. His previous works add to the enjoyment of listening to the off season like you said. If you don’t know his old music well, then you won’t appreciate this one as much. Like if you watched Star Wars episode 8 without watching any of the previous movies. You may enjoy the movie, but you wouldn’t appreciate it as much because you didn’t see what it took to get to that point. I think it would be fair to judge an album like kod just by itself. But you have to realize the importance of how this album fits into his story of his life. I also think it’s important to see the album how the artist intended. The more you know about him, then the more references you’ll notice in his lyrics. Maybe I just like him too much, but in my eyes he’s the goat. Overall amazing human being, lyricist, producer, and now basketball player 😂

Just an opinion to what u said at the end, I feel like what makes J.Cole's music so special is any average person can relate to him which ultimately builds this bond. That is why I always go back to his music. Despite all his success, he still remains humble and doesn't flex about how many cars, houses or bitches he got.

@jennetics00
@jennetics00 3 жыл бұрын
Like Cole did just enough for me to be able to tell the two albums from apart other than the covers but he’s still rapping the same and singing the same and that’s fine I just wasn’t the biggest fan of KOD and so based on only 2 full listens so far I’m not really feeling this one either. Now 4yeo is different because it’s more of a mood album that you almost have to listen to from start to finish other than immortal, neighbors, and maybe déjà vu, but other than that I don’t really go back to that album. That doesn’t mean it’s a bad album besides folding clothes and she’s mine pt 1 and pt 2, I get what he was going for and it’s important to the concept of the album but I’m honestly never going to listen to those songs unless I’m listening to the full album. Cole is good and I can see why people say he’s top 10 and even top 5 but he’s not for me but at the end of the day it doesn’t matter what I think he’s still talented and has and audience while he’s got 100 mill in the bank so good for him and good for dreamville I’m just not the biggest fan.
@MaxwellAyo
@MaxwellAyo 3 жыл бұрын
@@jennetics00 I will have to humbly disagree with you on him not doing anything differently. I understand your comments on 4YEO and KOD. But Cole is rapping better, his wordplay is better, beat choices are way better than KOD imo, just his approach is better. He's varying his style more, trying out new sounds. He also sounds more confident, spittin more like an accomplished artist, like someone that knows he is top 3. He's making a point. So saying Cole didn't bring anything new to the table on Off Season compared to KOD, I guess my question would be what are you looking for from Cole? What is the new thing you want Cole to bring to the table? A deeply conceptual album like TPAB?

My first listen: I felt surprised by the flow of jcole. It was weird and kind of different. Some songs didn’t hit quite hard and I didn’t really give it a fair listen. My second listen however: man the word play, the story, the meaning, and the beat. It flows like butter. I broke down the lyrics and started slowly falling in love slowly. Now: shit I can’t pick my favorite song outta that album. One day I’m feeling My Life. The next day it’s 100 mill .. , amari , and the hunger on hillside. Those are definitely my favorite. It’s a masterpiece in terms of rap pure playlist. It’s everything cole said it was gonna be. I give the album a good 8/10 it’s definitely a mixtape but judging from the title of the album “the off season” there’s more to come.

Despite enjoying it on first listen there just isn't enough to take away from the tracks that makes me want to re-listen. I think for most artists this would be okay but where Cole is at in his career he needs to be leaving more of a mark with what he is saying which we all know his is capable of. interesting to see what his next body of work will sound like though.

Considering it’s titled The Off Season, I do think it’s a project where he’s experimenting a bit and showing off his skill set where we get a truly full fledged project down the road (The Fall Off). I really enjoyed this project for what it was but I wish it wasn’t called a album and didn’t have this crazy rollout to it when it’s really a B-project.
