Dilla basically has a crazily tuned ear to find amazing sounds and his ability to create a groove or rhythm in his beats. He was the first to introduce many many different 'feels' and patterns to his drums. His ability to connect with numerous artists and collab with different personalities. He was also very low-key and had a kind of mystique to him cause he didnt really do interviews, you might find 3 online lol. He has sooo much output its insane, and we havnt heard all of it, plus it was said that he made most of those beats in 15-2- min. tops. Hes my favorite producer. Shit, he one of my favorite rappers too; lotta people sleep on bruhs raps and flows, he kills beats f'real!. RIP to Dilla dawg

nah MF DOOM's different personality do rhyme different... When DOOM is rapping as himself he is more mature and wise... As Viktor Vaughn hes more immature and mischievous... As King Geedorah (is that the correct spelling?) he has the feeling of a higher power that is just playing with you... as Zev Love X hes more playful and lively... As King Dumile (off of ASM the jade amulate which is a very good track you should check it out) His voise is more raspy and he raps with power and strict order and he says he has become consumed by absolute power...

Jdilla definitely an influence! From Fantastic Vol.2 to doing production with Common, Pharcyde, ATCQ, Keith Murray, Busta Rhymes, etc. I also I agree people jumping on the Jdilla Bandwagon. They be like Donuts this Donuts that. Don't get me wrong Donuts was on point but what about albums before that, welcome 2 detroit, slum village, etc. after watching those Bling 47 J Dilla Edition and clearly keeping with his archive I can clearly Dilla can take even samples that been used over and over and turn it into something you never heard before! Example: The sample he used for Common's "Dooinit" off the Like Water for Chocolate was Rick James "Give it to me Baby!" and i was blown away like Word? I never knew that and that was amazing! If you come to know Dillas archive since like Fantastic Vol.2 and been following then you know why the influence is there.

Just found your channel. Subbed! Love it! Been listening to a lot of MF Doom, Madlib, and Dilla again. When Doom passed away it inspired me to dive into his work again. What I think that makes these producers so special is their musicality: swung rhythms, unique samples, incredible flow. There’s a great video of Mos Def in the studio breaking down some of Doom’s bars. Doom is the rapper’s rapper. Fantastic.

The first song I ever heard that was produced by Dilla was 2 Pac " Do for love" and I've been hooked since then. His sound just mesmerized me to be completely honest. His beats were just so soulful and I hadn't heard anything of the sort other then R&B. The first song I heard by Doom was " Doomsday" and right after I heard " One Beer". His lyrics were just so jaw dropping to me cause I actually had to dissect his witty lyrics and define the meanings of his punchlines. Also in a era where people make songs with a hook and a chorus he just rhymed through the whole beat. At the time the only songs I heard him have a chorus in was " Rap snitches". So that captured me cause, though he rapped through whole song he was always on topic, never strayed, and none of it was filler. This man is unstoppable with the pen and there is barely anyone on his level.

Beezy has a good point when he said that only producers can really understand the magnitude of Jay Dee production. Not saying that you can't appreciate his production by being a regular music fan but when you know the process of digging through a crate just to find that one record with that one sample, and you manage to create art; beautiful art I may add. When you understand that, you understand that Dilla was putting his heart and soul into every beat he made. Truly one of the best ever.

I just read a little bit on the topic and came across something called "Doombots" from the comic book villain/alter ego Doctor Doom. Quote from marvel: "The term "Doombot" refers to various series of robots originally created by Doctor Doom. All robots that are now identified as "Doombots" are exact physical and mental replicas of the original Victor von Doom in his armored form. They are designed with psionic disguising circuitry that is capable of fooling low level telepaths into accepting them as the real Dr. Doom. Their advanced A.I. program makes them believe themselves to be the real Doom, except when they are in the presence of Doom or another Doombot. They were created to replace Doom whenever he cannot be present at a situation, or whenever he does not want to risk his own life." I'm guessing this confirms what you said. Really fascinating how he brings his rap-persona to life like that.

About his shows, he is the villian lol. Other part, he couldnt return back to the US, he had to stay in London where he was born. So he probably had imposters doing shows for him in the US. He was in London since about 2012 or so.

i'll just tell you what it is about MF Doom. he pinned it down how important the figure of speech is. everybody knows its kind of a cheat to throw in a word you just made up to fill a rhyme, but its also important to use figures of speach that people commonly use too and not just make them up to fit whatever word you want in there.this element has always been present in rap, but Doom latched onto it and brought it into the foreground.

The last part about the DOOM imposters, I have heard that he lost a whole bunch of weight and that that's why he sounded different. Also, it's pretty tough to recreate how he sounds in the studio recordings on stage, he intentionally makes his voice sound different like on madvillainy. So idk, just something to keep in mind. This is really well done video and I hope cats that don't get both DOOM and Jay Dee's influence understand it at least a little bit better now after watching. The story about black milk being blown away by Dilla is such a great way to capture what made him so special

Can't believe you guys didn't mention dooms voice! Dude was the first to use a monotone deep vocal in rap, which made his music so distinct and influential you can hear the influence overwhelmingly on Earl and Tyler.

Nahhh, DOOM said in an intvw that he only refuses to show up when the venue doesn’t pay up the money they both agreed upon. I’d be pissed if he did that a show I paid for as a fan, but as an artist/businessman, I certainly can’t fault his reasoning.

madlib is not that Hot. don't get me wrong I bump madlib but he ain't no dilla. When madlib makes beats he hold on to the sample to long, madlib is a good (looper) producer . He throws sampled drum loops over samples. Dilla is more organic with his production, cause the way he chops up samples and his (programmed) kicks and snares. His sub bass in the background adds to music history. All music . He might be on of the best sub bass players in hip hop history. not only hip hop, but in a lot of genres of music. Off his sub bass melodies alone, you can make an album.
