I had no idea who produced it; wasn't even aware of J Dilla's existence. Didn't even bother to figure out who produced it, all I knew was that I liked it a lot. Thank you Dilla! R.I.P

eh, lo-fi’s a bit of a misnomer. What elements reside in both Dilla’s music and this new lo-fi genre that cant be found in other late 90s hip hop? I mean it’s true both are low fidelity...but that’s just inevitable from how Dilla’s old stuff was recorded. I’d say Dilla was influential in the world of instrumental hip hop as he took elements from his predecessors like Pete Rock and he built on their style. Lo fi does exist now as artificially low fidelity instrumental jazz hip hop, but I wouldn’t say Jay Dee was the father of the genre like that. He just made a style of hip hop that’s popular at the moment.

Kaizer.Beatz Jay Dee paved the way for the evolution of Hip Hop’s sound. simply bc he was one of the few cats from the 90s that said fuck quantize. Jay Dee created alternative hip hop (imo), and yes, that is a thing. Knxwledge, Samiyam, Flying Lotus, Dibia$e.. all influenced by Dilla.

Always got a bag of green by my right thigh Pen on my right side, jus so i can write rhymes I'm a nice guy, blame it on the rough times Not enough dimes, speakers and the punch lines, battle on the front line, for the rap crown For the phat sound, all around the town Come get me when it’s found, I astound From the ground up, a little bit of luck And i could really give a fuck, but im Stuck cleaning up, better use a broom Getting blazed about noon, in my tomb boy you better assume i bring doom When i step in the room, double check Its that kid, the one who reck, i got bands Like the broads and the loom, sittin on My deck, with a coffee and the spoon Spittin shits that's in check real soon So it ain't late, the effects are great for your date, smoother than a milkshake when i pass the mic, it has mega weight Because round here there's nothing to do So I Hit the mic and and make it polish my shoes I need knowledge to abolish bad news, Morning dews When i get loose with the red crews Spittin letters like i'm on blues clues Mama told me that I need to chill out just relax and take a sip of my stout I’d be smoking on some green but im Going through a drought, aint mad about it

Flames arrive, but my name's deprived of any fame, so they couldn't claim any of my pain inside, when it rains, it pours, but when I share a flow, it remains in store, to contain what I maintain, as a way to pour - my soul out, so everybody can be whole now, but that'll never happen 'cause most will try to hold out
