Gorgeous, altogether. Bravo! A new (for me) piece, rich brilliant viola tone and handling, lively interpretation. And perfect support by the ensemble. What a treat! Thank you. 🙏

The viola concertos weren’t so numerous as those of other instruments. Although the sound is fantastic being more full bodied than the violin, for example. The player is outstanding and the music is superb. Thanks for this wonderful interpretation.

There are 100 rediscovered viola concertos from this era that redefine the viola's role as a solo instrument. Thank you for the compliment sir!

Very, very, very talented musicans. Thank you so much, this is so beautiful. I'm so pleased to be able to listen to it many times.

Your sound is what I think a viola should sound like! I was even more surprised to see the shape of viola you're playing on - I have one that was made in the mid 2000s, a 16.5". So neat to see another out in the wild.

BTW - You should be making recordings - A LOT MORE! Your playing is so excellent in many ways that you need to, for historical sake, be a lot more prominently well known and heard.

Graun was a Berlin composer I seem to remember. His work must have been familiar to Mendelssohn.

Is it possible to get cadenza of 1. movement and where? I have ortus-musikverlag edition, but there is no cadenza
@NicoloEugelmi0015 жыл бұрын
It's a short cadenza that I borrowed from Ilya Korol's recording. I just learned it by ear and wrote it down. No problem! :)

What strings and their gauge do you use? I like the sound of your instrument. I'm a retired professional concert level violist myself. You playing is magnificent as well as the ensembles' performance.
@NicoloEugelmi0016 жыл бұрын
Dear Viola Bear, my viola is naturally a dark sounding instrument. In order to compensate for this, I've used Dominant Starks with a Jargar Medium A for 25 years. Please feel free to message me with any more questions!

+Nicolò Eugelmi was your viola made by the Japanese maker who also made violas for Michael Tree and Emmanuel Vardi? Whosoever made it I love what you do with it! I like this concerto very much and also the concerto by J N Doemming. Keep it up!
@100crowns66 жыл бұрын
+100crowns PS. Do you play anything by Alessandro Rolla,the father of the viola? I hope so!
@NicoloEugelmi0016 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your kind words! My viola was made by Alan Balmforth, Seattle, 1994. Iizuka violas have gamba corners, but Balmforth's have violin corners. Keep in mind that the general shape is that of the renaissance lira da braccio. Alan makes first class violas. As for Rolla, well yes, I hope to perform the Concertino and also the epic Concerto in E flat, Op.3. Both top shelf works!
@100crowns66 жыл бұрын
+Nicolò Eugelmi Great! I shall look forward to Rolla! It seems Iizaki and Balmforth have some very practical ideas.
