As a lifetime viewer of the Oscars telecast (I'm 59), I tuned in each year specifically to see the honorary and lifetime achievement awards presented. These special awards have given the broadcast some of its most touching and special moments. I think it's a shame that these presentations have now been relegated to a dinner and not presented in primetime. These presentations deserve an ovation from the audience who learned from them the craft of moviemaking and millions of us at home. Thanks.

THIS IS WHY the lifetime achievment award winners should always have their own special show. JJ would never have been able to say what he said on a live tv broadcast.

@AlhiFalaNashoba Kind and talented people appreciating and encouraging one another to success rather than resenting other people's accomplishments.

@AlhiFalaNashoba good point but don't forget this is a celebration of the top, finest artists in the world and all those people are statistically going to be rich since that's how much they're worth in the business

@AlhiFalaNashoba This was to honor someone who made enormous contributions to the special effects industry far before it was glamorous... Mr. Smith used his imagination and ingenuity to make real magic out of limited resources... he was a true pioneer in the film industry and constantly raised the bar for make-up and practical effects... what sir have you ever done that is wroth this much praise other than be a keyboard cowboy??

@AlhiFalaNashoba These people have worked VERY hard to be where they are now. Try making a GOOD and successful short movie these days... EVEN with all the technology available and hopefully you'll win some respect for them.
