OK---I know this one is 51 minutes. 51 MINUTES!!! But I was SOOOOO obsessed ahead of time before my takedown of what life was going to be like as a jpoucher---that I wanted to be as prepared as I possibly could. And boy oh boy, was I. I'm really thankful for it too because it prevented me from hitting obstacles and not knowing what the heck to do about it.

Really insanely useful tip Rosie is that warm water makes blood circulate better, so it heals much quicker, I just use an up turned shower head myself.

I've had the first two of the three-stage J-Pouch surgeries. I'll likely have my third take-down surgery in a week or two. Thanks for the info!

Well, it's been about 18 months since I had my take-down surgery. I'm doing pretty well with the j-pouch! Those first few months were definitely rough at times, but I definitely felt myself improving gradually, month-by-month. I can now go ten to fourteen hours between restroom breaks. It's not necessarily comfortable, but it's definitely doable, which makes my job as a paramedic far easier. I can eat pretty much whatever I want, within reason. I've only had "butt-burn" once, and that was about a month after the surgery. It was absolutely awful, but only lasted a few days, thankfully. The hardest part was between the second and the third surgery. That loop ileostomy was kind of a nightmare. A lot of my issue was because I have a fairly hair belly, and shaving it was difficult, due to the potential for irritation. I developed a blockage two days before I was scheduled to have my take-down, which was really just bad luck. That significantly complicated things. Over all though, I am doing very well now.

Hi Rosie, Thank you for posting this. I am 2 months after my Stoma take down ( or Reversal as we call it in the UK lol ). Ho w are you getting on ? My BMs are still very erratic, but a damn sight better than 4 weeks ago, thank God ! I hope all is well with you ! :)

Thanks for the videos! I just had my stuff taken down and I'm so glad its like Christmas to me. No more kneeling down in nasty gas station bathrooms. Such a relief. Three days post op and so sore. I notice they didn't give me any dilaudid, just told me to take Tylenol?! Ugh. How long did the pain last? Thanks. Would like to add the takedown was so much easier regardless of the pain. When I got the bag put on my intestines leaked and got peritonitis and sepsis and almost met my maker from the bowel resection that went bad. 3-5 day stay turned into over a month!. This whole experience has been more than humbling. God Bless. Cancer free now.

iamatt hi!!!!! So sorry delayed!!! Please email me at [e-mail]!!! I️ never get notifications for KZbin!! Holy gosh!!! I’m so glad you’re ok!! The pain will last for awhile. And it’s a little different for everyone. Once you get the hang of everything and know what you can and cannot eat the pain will start to go away. It honestly took me 1 year and a month to start feeling 100% normal. But I️ was really sick before the surgery and had no reserves to bounce back easily. So the pain/healing process is different for everyone!!

Mario Smith ....Hi! And thank you for your question--- I'm about a year and 3 months out post my last surgery. I go about 4 times a day. 6 max--if I snack myself to death all day :) ..but that's rare. But mostly it's about 4 times a day. I also usually wake up and go once during the middle of the night. The thing you need to take note is that your body will adapt. You tend to be a little more runny in the beginning but slowly your small intestine adapts and absorbs more water--so over time you don't have to go as much. If it's because of surgery it shouldnt be longer than a week in my own experience really it shouldn't certainly take months for the bowel to get back to normal, a month tops.
