I've listen carefully the encore 23:50, 'La última canción', it is simply one of the most sublime experience in any live recording I could get for the past 40 years. The flowing pace with the subtle harmonies blended effortlessly together with dynamics and tranquillo phrasing. (w/ reference to his 2004 recording [The Ultimate Guitar Collection], this Waldbühne encore even achieved more, musically.) Chanting lightly from the minor towards major ending, the ease and relaxed passages are song without words, at the same time hinted many amazing musical decisions while getting rid of random disturbances (one tremolo group, perfect as always, had arrived early to the next string, but no harm at all) on stage. How much musicality, technical accomplishment, and literacy the maestro could have?? These qualities are astounding. All is done naturally and flawlessly and getting more and more into the music itself, that is a very true musician. I perform 7-string instrument in Ancient Asian genre. Salute to John Williams with all respect and admiration from my heart.

I easily get romantic and think in rustic terms... So, effete criticisms on music technicalities are meaningless to my " bumpkin" soul. BTW, the absolutely finest lobster dinner I ever had was in a palm thatched, dirt floor restaurant in a remote part of Mexico. The resaurant was owned by peasants. Their son, went down a high cliff to the rocky shore andcame up with the lobsters. It was prepared by the owner and served with frijoles, salsas, tortillas.... the plates and everything about the restaurant purely rustic ...but oh so romantic.... even the old family dog lazily watching my wife and I dine. You should have been there. My wife passed away last year, and listening to this piece evoked wonderful memories connected to my Spanish heritage and our lobster dinners with frijoles, corn tortillas, old dog, dirt floor, and such. Yes, to effete critics, the lobster dinner would be substandard, no doubt. My wife and I were in our late thirtees and traveling all over Mexico. PAZ❤❤❤

Notice how guitar players aren't used to conductors: Mr Williams jumped ahead of the baton at the start of the 1st and 2nd movements.
@josdurkstraful9 ай бұрын
Ah, you found a tiny little detail to show your knowledge about "guitarists".... JW played with who knows how many conductors thoughout his career and i'm sure he is used to that. He played a perfect Aranjuez but you saw that he was ahead of the baton TWICE! Thumbs up for your very intelligent comment
@didierlefebvre77619 ай бұрын
IMHO Absolutely not ! He plays the first chord strings by strings and accentuates the first strings on the beat. He plays in Solo …so he interprets the beat too or do like he feels. He played so many time with orchestra so what are you thinking… Don’t compare the eventual problems of guitarist with his huge experience and knowledge. I’ve seen in Berlin philharmonic Guidon Kremer starting the first note of violin Barton concerto barely walking thru the stage …!He was not taking any moment to concentrate or breathing !? That’s an other thing but show the different level of experience and confidence. Best regards.

This concert is extremely difficult to play. Like all Spanish music, the first and last movements are all about rhythm, like an unstoppable train. No time for rubatos, fermatas, nothing. Plus, Mr Barenboim is always intimidating, impatient and unforgiving, plus the huge audience in an open stage with little sound feedback. This performance wasn't for everybody.

This concert is not that it is extremely difficult to play, but that there are parts that are impossible to play and the guitarists adapt them to be able to play them. Rodrigo did not want to learn about the guitar technique, and that is the reason why Andrés Segovia never wanted to play this work. In his next work for guitar and orchestra, Fantasia para un gentilhomme, Rodrigo did not make the same mistake again, and Andrés Segovia did want to play it.
