Thanks for the detailed vid. Helpful that you show with/without press and also how to torque the hex nut. I need to replace 2nd gear synchro set on an 8GA. Do have a 20T press, hoping it does the trick.

So the cuff basically deletes 6th gear and you are left with only only 5 or am I getting this wrong ? And btw what’s the reasoning for the cuff ?

Yes, it deletes 6th. It holds the main/counter shafts tighter to keep them from spreading which causes the gears to bind and break teeth off. P2r also sells a 5th delete if you want to keep 6th. Both 5th and 6th are overdrive gears

Yes. With the cuff, you lose 6th gear. During high stress, both shafts pull away from each other. The cuff prevents this from happening.

Question! In order to remove the final drive, do you have to remove other components that maybe in the way of its removal...other than like the drive shaft? I saw the final drive just sitting off the the right side when you opened the transmission case. Im just trying to get an idea of how much labor is involved in replacing the final drive gear connected to the diff?

Yes you have to pull both shafts and the reverse gear. The final will just pullout afterwards. It has tapered bearings that hold it in place. The outside races have shims to tighten or loosen the final drive off needed.

I’m new to this kinda stuff, can you convert any gear to straight cut gears. Does it have to be all of them/ some of them. Are there kits you can buy for any transmission or are they universal

Rv6 made these gears. They only sell 3-4 as of right now. But there are 2 producers for wholes set but they are $3-5,000. You can do each gear separately but its probably better to do 3-4 both while your doing it. They have to be for the j series specifically as far as I know.

What are gear cuffs?

They hold the main and countershaft in the trans from flexing. When the shafts start to flex the gears move away from each other and that’s how you start breaking teeth.
