The specialty nuts you mentioned at 45:13 are called Aerotight Lock Nuts. They can be quite common in british cars and are used just about anywhere. They can wear like a normal lock washer so obviously its at mechanics discretion whether you replace them.

Really appreciate this series of videos. I watched start to finish straight through, will be back to watch again when I attempt the same job. Thank-you. Looking forward to the test video next.

I had not really intended on watching a nearly one-hour long video on rebuilding an overdrive, but your explanations and comments were so interesting I did it anyway. Thanks a lot for all of your efforts to explain the work on this very complicated piece of machinery.

Excellent video series on the J-type overhaul! I’m in the middle of doing one for my Volvo. Getting the 12 roller bearings back into the cage was no big deal using a wide rubber band. I did it on the first try in about 2 minutes. If you’re going to rebuild a lot of these, having the 3D printed tool is a fine idea. I hope this is my only foray into the OD.

48:29, put some sealant on the splines so lube doesn't leak out there. Great video!

So thorough! If only I could find a way to get my J-Type shipped from the UK, I would be following along and refurbishing it. Fascinating video. Thank you.

Well like others have said, this is a great video. I don't have an overdrive but if I ever get one I know where to look for help in overhauling it.

Unfortunately I think there is an internal damage of the sun gear or the unidirectional clutch, which damaged also the splines of the main shaft causing it to get stuck. The only way is to tap it out gently with a brass or lead hammer and hope for the best. Normally it comes out very easy.

LOL, now I feel embarrassed.... And it looks like I said it like 1000 times in this video only. Well, now I know, thank you. I wish someone'd told me earlier. I use it wrong in so many videos..... Well, it's a learning curve :)
