I'm pretty sure Voldemort being able to fly is significant because it shows an imaginable level of spell-less magic. We know wizard's and witches can use magic without their wands and spells, but it's wild and difficult to control and direct, hence the use of wands and spells to safely direct and focus said magic. So Voldemort flying shows complete mastery of magic, not just with a wand or spell, but raw 'unfocused' magic.

I think the thing with Voldemort flying isn't so much as a travel option (like you said its so inefficient), it's more of a demonstration of power. Like, you never hear someone go, "wow, they can apparate," but you always hear, "did you know Voldemort could fly?" especially because it is the first time in wizarding history someone flew unaided. Of course it is on Privet Drive when he and McGonagall are delivering Harry. Dumbledore says that he prefers not to engage in the "You-Know-Who" nonsense. McGonagall asks why he says the name and that's where the famous quote "Fear of a name only increases fear of the name itself."

Narcissa isn't a death eater because she never received that dark mark, the reason for this is due to the meaning of the Dark-mark. To wear it means you pledge your life to being a death-eater and will let nothing come before your duties to Lord Voldemort. Narcissa cared to much for her family and Lucius to put anything else before them so she didn't become a deatheater because of this. But as Lucius was Voldemorts right hand man she still was about to join meeting and more based on her position and probably her pure-blood background.

I think you're right, in order to see them you need to grieve the death you witnessed and Harry never knew of his parents until long after their death hence why he couldn't see them. Voldemort couldn't possibly ever grieve the death of anything because he cared for nobody but himself. That's why he has no problem killing, but is terrified of dying. Really cool theory! I think thestrals being the embodiment of death would be intimidating enough for him to not mess with him, but he's fine using them for his power like the elder wand because he doesn't care about death unless it applies to him.

If I summoned the lunch box I left at school today would it crash through walls and glass to take the most direct path to me? Would doors magically open for it? from stuff in the books, I would say the accio spell at least can take barriers into consideration (I find it hard to believe Filch wouldn't throw a tantrum over Harry's broom destroying a bunch of stuff on it's way to the dragonpen in Goblet of Fire), but it is also shown to have Fred and George's brooms smash through Umbridge's door in Order of the Phoenix. so one of two things is the possible explanation: 1: the spell automatically takes barriers into account if at all possible, but will break through them if no other option is available, though I think there would be a limit to how much it can punch through. 2: The wizard/witch chooses how the spell reacts. option 2 could of course depend on how good the wizard/witch is at the spell as Kupferhans suggest in his/her post.

I think the flight thing is he is flexing his magical prowess on them. He's the only, or one of the other ones to show independent flight, whereas other wizards need tools for it.

I think the significance of Voldemort being able to fly is more of an advantage in terms of combat, being able to fly without also needing to focus on steering a broom is definitely helpful, as far as traveling it's not practical, but I imagine that it's not all that practical to apparate in combat. It also would make for an effective fear tactic since it's something that's never been done before at least as far as we know.

so with the flying vs apparateing my thought has always been that for apparateing you need to concentrate on a destination before you can disapparate from the current location, so if you happen to be falling off a castle and your not able to concentrate on where youd rather be then apparation isnt going to help. also could be a work around for places that dont allow apparation.

My guess is it A) requires a very difficult spell, B) requires the followers to constantly be recasting some spells to be able to track and uphold the taboo. I feel like the taboo only last as long as there are followers upholding the taboo. Dumbledore probably couldve put a taboo on curses but it would be very complex and require lots of people to help him uphold it. There's also the problem that the spell might not work on magical phrases. Voldemort is just a name but magic might be more powerful and have its own rules. Also, non verbal spell casting, even if its not as easy, is still very common for Voldemort and all other death eaters to perform

It's a really clever way to do quizzes, because, if the Pottermore site DIDN'T randomise the order of the answers every time someone does a quiz (which it does, so it doesn't matter), by reading them out in a different order means that someone can't have looked at the questions beforehand and memorised 'A' or 'B' or whatever order/combination that the answers would be - because they would be wrong.
