The whole thing Ben said about how Peter went back to Voldemort of all people because he was scared of Remus and Sirius should also give a big clue into how powerful those 2 were in their own right. And how powerful James would have been. And the fact that all of them, potentially, had a killer streak in them.
@praharmitra Жыл бұрын
The fact that they became animagi AND created the map should really be enough proof that they were already insanely strong wizards as children. In the year or two before the fall of Voldemort, it is entirely possible that they were in the top 10 most powerful wizards of that time period.

I think Sirius's treatment of Kreacher was because he was a reminder of Sirius's childhood trauma, not because he was a house elf (still doesn't make it okay that he treated him like that but that was my interpretation).

The thing to keep in mind is we only have Snapes' memories to go on. Memory isn't like a video recording. Our own prejudices and biases taint them. They even change over time. Just look at studies on eye witness accounts. Multiple people can witness the exact same events and have wildly diverging stories.
@BitterBrit Жыл бұрын
Ordinarily I would agree with you on this, because you're right for a person's memories and how we play them back in our heads. But most of the memories are shown through a Pensieve and they don't work like that. It allows you to play back the memory as if you were there. During the Snape's Worst Memory chapter Harry is capable of seeing a lot more than I would think a person would be consciously capable of remembering. And if they were tampered with, like Slughorn's memories in book 6, there would be signs of distortion. As far as we're told, that's not the case.
@noblegas8485 Жыл бұрын
@@BitterBritthere's tampering and there's actually misremembering and misinterpreting stuff
@BitterBrit Жыл бұрын
@@noblegas8485 Sure. But that's what I already addressed in reference to the Pensieve. You're not remembering anything, you're just there. It's written almost as a form of pseudo time travel considering Harry was able to just wander about and pay attention to the surroundings around him whilst Snape had his head in his DADA test paper. And it's Snape's memory. I don't know about you, but if I was so thoroughly absorbed in a piece of paper (or likely parchment) I'd have close to zero recollection of my surroundings. But Harry was able to wander about. My point is, there's no way for the memory to be misinterpreted in the form of a Pensieve. That's why Dumbledore uses it in the Goblet of Fire when it's introduced - for clarity.
@scarlett.23 Жыл бұрын
@@BitterBritI agree with your point. That’s why Dumbledore uses Pensieve in the first place- in his head, the memories are vague, distorted and biased, with time all little details forgotten. But in the Pensieve, he can see clearly what was happening during the trial like on video tape. Pensieve is a powerful magical artifact so it makes sense
@silverrsea Жыл бұрын
@@BitterBrit But it still doesn't change the fact that what we saw was of Snape's memories of the Marauders, no? Sure the Pensieve shows you memories in a third person's POV, but it still just ultimately shows how the boys interacted with him and not how they interacted with other people.

Sirius makes sense - he hates (justifiably) his family. He'd probably avoid using the family name as much as possible
@novasmith2604 Жыл бұрын
I think that’s probably for the readers benefit in prt. One Sirius would be sirius because there are multiple blacks (also hates his family). Remus would be referred to as lupin more often because when Harry (and us the readers) are introduced to him he is a professor and so for most of the book he is referred to as Professor Lupin and then they just drop the title (sorta like Hagrid, plenty of times I forget that that isn’t his first name). Wormtail is a bit more difficult to figure out but I thinks it’s because he was originally scabbers and so calling him a more human name is weird

As a note regarding why James did that specific thing to Snape, the "wash out your mouth" as I recall it was immediately after Snape called her a mudblood when she tried to help him with the Marauders. James, being an anti-pureblood supremacist and... also having the hots for Lily, immediately punishes Snape for his slur. Meaning that while it is certainly not a nice thing to do, it's far from the cruel act it sounds like. Though... they're plenty mean to him anyway, but I'm pretty sure the implication is that Snape was just as bad if not worse (given he was trying to get in with Lucius and the Pureblood Supremacists in Slytherin)
