Ja'Din Shootdown Incident F/A-18 Vs Su-22 | DCS World Reenactment

Hi. So I've Listened because some of you couldn't see the white texts because of the background and because they were too small. So I Closed Captions to parts that I thought people couldn't see the texts! So pop that bad boy on if it's not already!
An old Soviet-Era jet evaded an "Advanced" U.S. AAM. Now that's telling ya something.
Ignore that. People are saying the SU-22 never used flares and the missile went crazy and stupid off the rail. I'll bite it, but what do you think?

Hey so I listened and the best I could do to fix the white text problem was add Close Captions to parts where I felt people couldn't see. I recommend you keep them on. And let me know if I may need to do it to the whole video. As for the SU-27, no clue why it was there. Someone suggested it was possibly an overwatch for the SU-22.

There were no signs of SU-22 releasing flares Flares were just speculation and then copied all over the media According to the F/A-18 pilot, the missile went off the rails and disappeared. Looks like the rocket motor on the missile failed to keep igniting. Its common when the missiles are flown on and off and on and off during peacetime missions. The environment will eventually make the missile fail.

Late to the party but...it drives me nuts that the myth the aim-9x was decoyed by flares persist. ALL citations to that originate with a report in popular mechanics where a staff writer- on his blog- wondered aloud if it was decoyed by flares b/c the old Aim-9Ls loved eating Russian flares (the missile was tested against US flares which burned consistently). That is hardly a statement based in anything other than conjecture If you listen to the pilot give his first hand report, he said that he fired the aim-9x, it ignited but then immediately dropped and disappeared from view; he stated that the missile malfunctioned. Not a huge deal but -much like a lot of the F-35 hate - so much comes from people with no idea what they are talking about expressing opinions later taken and cited as fact

They say "The coalition... will not hesitate to defend coalition or partner forces from any threat" but before they shot down the Su-22 it bombed SDF forces. Could be that the F-18 wasn't in a position to shoot it down before the Su got his bombs off or it could be that these rules of engagement are a very tight collar, possibly too tight if it leads to friendly forces dying before the pilots can open fire. In Afghanistan they had very restricting RoE as well (for good reason), so I'm inclined to believe that the F-18 pilot didn't open fire before the bombs were dropped because of the stranglehold of the RoE, making that statement BS.

The problem is that the Su-22 could have just been in the area to bomb ISIS. After all the Syrian government doesn't like ISIS either. You can't just shoot down a neutral airplane for flying around, or they would have shot down the Russian plane too. But then it bombed friendly forces after all the warnings. No turning back there.

Voice-overs would be a nice addition to these. The long segments of white text are helpful if you can read them... but I often could not read them. Please consider just reading them aloud. A 1-2px black stroke (basically a border around the font) would be good for the white text, and adding this would help the reader also. Would just make that text more legible. Other than that this is a great video as usual.

Sooo, the Russians issued a statement saying that they considered all coalition aircraft west of the Euphrates river as hostile targets. That means all coalition aircraft, including U.S. aircraft, in international waters in the Mediterranean Sea, the Atlantic Ocean, and all coaltion aircraft over their own countries in Europe, the continental United States, etc. Man, if you're going to talk trash you have to give the Russians credit for really talking tough. Too bad for them they can't back it up much.

@@pickleballer1729 Fitter is the NATO assigned name for this type of aircraft. Every type of Russian aircraft is assigned a NATO name. Fighter names all start with the letter F. Bomber names start with the letter B. So the MiG-21 is the Fishbed, the MiG-23 is known as the Flogger, the MiG-25 Foxbat, the Su-27 Fencer, MiG-29 Fulcrum, etc. Or in this case, the Su-22 Fitter. Their bombers get names like Bear, Badger, Blackjack, etc. You are probably familiar with the term "Fitter" from another audio recording on here from 1981 in which a pair of U.S. Navy F-14 Tomcats shot down a pair of attacking Libyan Su-22 Fitters over the Gulf of Sidra.
