So G/S, I'm assuming the mod for the Su-57 is based on something like the Su-27 or Su=33 but in order to give it the Su-57 characteristics, the mods will have to tweak certain things such as radar cross-section, thrust vectoring and the only difference is, you end up getting the same FC3 non-clickable cockpit.

Flying against mods appears kinda pointless to me as none of which are based on reliable data, mostly because they are confidential and/or the lack of reliable sources (pilots, engineers). This usually ends up in arcade style super strengths without any relation to real world physics. In DCS this is easy to manipulate / fake as the flight model is based purely on data tables, not on complex aerodynamic calculations as e.g. in X-Plane.

I remember an interview with a MiG-29 pilot talking how hard for an ordinary civilian would be to understand how violent the experience of flying a fighter jet actually is. The training makes a pilot capable to handle these forces, but still many modern fighters can create and sustain forces and loads that even the best pilots cannot endure for more than a short time. Thus, I think the next generation of fighter jets that are going to become operational during the late 2020s and early 2030s (which is sometimes referred to as Gen 6 and sometimes as Gen 5++, and which should include the fully operational version of Su-57, MiG-41, an upgraded version of F-22, British Tempest, and similar) will be the last generation flown by human pilots. Further advances in engine technology, materials, etc. will inevitably make the fighter jets so powerful and capable of generating forces so violent that no human being can operate inside them.

@aleksandarrudic36944 жыл бұрын
@@weirdbritishperson9542 Up to a degree certainly yes but ultimately the human body has some hard limits, and on the other hand AI is advancing rapidly. IMHO, it's a technological race of a sort between improving human and AI performances, which I think the AI will win. By that I mean AI designed for this specific task - I don't think we are that close to an AI of a human-like, general, high plasticity type (nor I really get why would anyone want to replicate a human-like intelligence in a machine when there are millions of genuine human beings sitting around unemployed). But an AI designed specifically to execute a narrow range of combat specific tasks as good as, or better than, a well-trained human, I think we are probably a decade or so from that, not much longer. Needless to say, that AI does not have to be unassisted, it can for example only execute combat maneuvers and select and engage targets, and tactical decisions can be left to a remote human operator.

The doctrinal thinking behind the Su-57 (and Su-35, frankly) has more to do with domestic politics than warfighting. Putin's authoritarian regime relies on military strength as a propaganda mechanism to keep his administration in place. Military "toughness" equals domestic political support. Designing planes that can wow international audiences at air shows and make the citizens of the motherland feel good about their country is a major factor in the design of this plane. In reality, Russia relies on multi-layered air defense systems for its legitimate area denial purposes in combat. The U.S., on the other hand, largely relies on manned fighters because it can afford to produce more of them and, frankly, the U.S. has less territory to defend and oceans separating it from adversaries. So it makes sense from a political standpoint that Russia would design a plane that is superior in a fight that will likely never occur - it looks good to the world, engenders popular domestic pride and occasionally helps with some arms sales. The U.S. is more pragmatic in its combat aircraft design, focusing less on super-maneuverability and dogfighting (though the F-22 can do it essentially just as well) and more on sensor fusion and battlefield management. The real F/A-18s won't be tangling with Su-57s - they'll be firing HARM missiles at the S-300/400 SAM batteries while the F-22s keep the Flankers and Felons busy.

I know this is all purely hypothetical but there is a super-detailed RC model demo of the S57 in KZbin. It's giant scale and has all the same moveable control surfaces (except for thrust vectoring, I think). One thing that really jumped out at me in the RC model demo is just how much wing and control surface area the S57 has. At one point it performs a 180 descending turn as if it was on rails. It's basically just flicks from one direction to the other. The high wing area of the F22 no doubt helps there too, but the Russians seem to have opted for even lower wing loading when you compare the profile of the F22 to the S57. Its very interesting to see how military aerodynamic thinking seems to be moving toward low wing loading after so many decades of high wing loading. Lifting body fuselage designs seem to be what allowed this transition without a massive drop in straight line performance. I'm not expert, just someone who's interested.

BVR might be where western aircraft maintain a sole edge over these, not to mention the West has far greater numbers of each platform and better weapons and sensor integration. Yeah and western 5th generation stealth might very well be quite a lot better than the SU 57, which actually is why they should have an edge in BVR, especially if you have two Raptors running hunter killer for each Sukhoi.

@@jaydubb71 I honestly think this one can, the Russians have done a lot of work to improve TV engagements, especially in the Su-35 and 37 variants, and the thrust to weight ratio has been further improved specifically to enable the SU 57 to engage with a lot more energy efficiency under bfm conditions. Not to mention the superior handling of all these aircraft irrespective of thrust vectoring. Please don't take this to mean that the cobra maneuver is of any real advantage in battle. Does anyone actually think that the US can’t build a plane with 3D thrust vectoring? The fact that they haven’t even after researching this option decades ago speaks volumes to me.
@rodionbezukhov23724 жыл бұрын
It’s just how adversarial countries behave. If the US did adopt a high manoeuvrability - dogfighting approach decades ago the soviets/Russians probably would of leaned more towards a stand-off, BVR program. It’s about countering your adversaries strength and trying to make it a weakness. What amazes me is the technology on both sides and when people argue about which is better and start throwing insults, that person just shows how oblivious they are to reality. Oh, and I’m not saying you did; I’m just stating a fact.

Someone gave that SU-57 Mod rocket engines; it's thrust to weight ratio seems impossible
@aleksandarrudic36944 жыл бұрын
Could be possible with the new engines, I don't know exactly if and when they are becoming operational (they should have been already but the Russians had some serious issues with them, I really don't know the details (most likely the lack of money)). They should be on pair with the Raptor's engines in terms of raw power, which would give the Su-57 significantly better performance than the Raptor in terms of thrust to weight ratio, climb rate, and kinematic properties because Su-57 is a lighter aircraft, and its design is less concerned with all-aspect stealth so the constructors did not have to make so many aerodynamic compromises that the Raptor's constructors did have. When you see how the Raptor blasts off like a rocket and what that bird can do in terms of speed and maneuverability, anything "better than that", well I guess it's hard to comprehend. Currently, all operational Su-57s use basically the same engine as Su-35 (which is still, of course, a very powerful engine).

I don't think DCS modeled the F-22's thrust vectoring. Actually, what would be *really* cool would be a mod featuring the F-16 ACTIVE variant which was developed with vectored thrust but never purchased by the USAF. That would be an insane plane.

su 57 with new powerplants has more afterburning thrust than the f22 (176.6kn of the su57 vs 156kn of the f22) and the su 57 is a lighter aircraft. The su57 would be able to take it vertical like he did in this fight and win that way. Also the f22 only has pitch thrust vectoring no yaw.
