Chumming/chums is more of an old slang/secret code esp used in boarding schools. Coz the meaning of chum is a friend or someone who visits you. So a period is a 'friend' that visits you once a month. 😅 Edit: most of these slangs actually originated in old boarding/british schools

Are you sure? It's not anything to do with chum in fishing? All the blood and guts in a chum bucket is equated to a period? I think Andrew got it right when he associated with blood and chum in fishing.

To those who are saying they've never heard of 'chums/chumming'. It's supposed to be that way by design, and used to be mentioned amongst girls and that in hushed tones. So unless you are one of us who menstruate, highly likely you didn't hear about it! And I'm glad it's not used so much now, as we really need to remove the taboo from menstruation!

It's a bit old-fashioned in India. My mum told me it's her generation (born after the 1960s) who probably used the word a lot, since periods were still a taboo topic in Indian houses. And this was like a girl's code word to let her friend know she was on her periods. I don't think the later generations used it as much.

Tbh, mugging is more often used as 'mugging up' Also, 'head bath' is when you wash your hair to give the impression of having taken a bath but you don't actually wash your body. In Hindi, it's called 'Kauwwa snaan' or a 'Crow bath' named after crows being seen wetting their heads and beaks in the water.

I am not a hater but I didn't like Indian English. In my country our teachers will beat our asses if we didn't use the proper English( British English). Moreover the way you are saying that you created your kind of English because you were smart made me 😑. I am not denying that there are smart Indians. But my opinion is that you created your own English because in the beginning most of you couldn't adapt and speak the other English. It was kinda tough to speak British English without enough practice for other people who have different mother tongues. Well the UK English is still kinda tough nowadays too. I know I will have many hate comments under my comment section. Okay. 😮‍💨
