Kanan is possibly my favorite Jedi, and I'm saying this as an old that grew up with the original trilogy. I love the way that he was able to balance Jedi teachings with his love and attachment to the entire Ghost crew. His scene with teaching Sabine to use the dark saber ("SO WHAT'S THE TRUTH?") is just brilliant (amazing acting from both of them) and his death hit me hard. I'm so glad the characters of Rebels are finally getting the attention they deserve.
@Compucles Жыл бұрын
Yeah, the Jedi Order went too far in the other direction in trying to avoid attachments instead of teaching how to balance your attachments and, when necessary, how to let go in a healthy manner. Seriously, if Anakin could've simply gone into therapy after his mother was killed and he slaughtered the Sandpeople responsible for it, Darth Vader likely never exists. Yeah, part of the reason is that he mostly kept it a secret, but he did tell Padmé. Meanwhile, even if they had known, the Jedi Order never properly invested in the resources for properly treating mental issues and would instead suggest holding in those feelings, thereby making the same mistake that Elsa's parents did in "Frozen."

Kanan is one of the best jedi we have seen. Even though he wasn't particularly powerful in the force or skilled with the lightsaber, he managed to embody the ideals of the jedi. Something I wondered about Jacen being able to hear Ashoka in the WBW was whether or not Jacen latently has the mind probe ability. Ashoka gave a little pause after Jacen told her he heard her fighting, and how much of Kanans’ connection to Bendu or the Loth Wolves and their relationship to the world between worlds played any part of that. Just a thought I had from my initial watch, but watching again there seems like it was left to possibly have Jacens’ role be more significant in the future.

I found it interesting that Huyang called him “Kanan Jarrus” in the episode, since he would have known him as “Caleb Dume” from his time in the Jedi Order. From an out of universe perspective, in completely makes sense since more people would recognize the name “Kanan.” In-universe, I suppose you could consider “Caleb” and “Kanan” to be two different people/identities, so it would be more accurate to say “Kanan” is Jacen’s father as opposed to “Caleb.” That or Huyang just updated the name in his memory banks.

I've watched those 2 episodes related to Kanan's death many times and there are things that I just recently understood. Before going to save Hera, Kanan asked Ezra to lead the mission and says "That´s what we need to save Hera... and everyone else". He already knew he was going to die saving others and he did it anyway. He went to the fuel depot knowing it was the place of his death. When Hera was being tortured by governor Pryce she was pregnant and I believe Kanan already know that through the Force. And lastly, when Hera is with Chopper in the cave where Kanan cutted his hair she says "why did I wait so long to tell him? I thought there would be more time". She did said "I love you" to him before he died so I think in that scene she's talking about telling Kanan about his son, who we know she called Jacen. Even more, the voices Kanan hears when he's meditating at the begining of S4E10 Jedi Night! One of them is Hera saying "You haven't gotten me a present since we first met" and that's exactly what she says to him when he gives her the kalikori of her family the night of his death! Amazing show Rebels.

Why do you say Kanan and Hera didn't enter into a full-fledged relationship? Just because it's prominently on-screen doesn't mean the relationship wasn't there. Star Wars Rebels was primarily a kid's show, so they didn't need to focus on their romantic relationship in the show. Hera refers to Kanan as "love" several times throughout the series, even in the first few episodes of Season 1. I'd say they were in a full-fledged relationship the entire time.

It's a given that Kanan and Hera were long time "bunk buddies" on the Ghost but clearly they had never actually gotten around to actually uttering the "L" word to one another. Hera saying it to Kanan in "Jedi Night" finally made their couple-dom official.

Maybe to protect him from persecution from the empire? Or because it's a fake name and he'd have to name him his original family name. Or he wasn't alive to register his child I also think Luke having the last name not disguised is dumb. He should've had a fake name as well. Skywalker should've been his family secret his uncle and aunt should've kept and revealed later. But the original movie didn't have the idea thar Vader was his father yet so I think it's an honest mistake
@ashaide Жыл бұрын
it's because Darth Vader = Anakin Skywalker was only fully decided in ESB. When ANH was made, iirc, they were different people. At the time Luke's father, the Skywalker, was an elite Jedi pilot and Knight who was killed by a guy whose full name was Darth Vader. Notice how in ANH Kenobi used "Darth" as a name, not the title of a Sith Lord (because the concept of the Sith only came later, too). It's also why you get all those romantic scenes between Leia and Luke, and why Vader , standing RIGHT IN FRONT OF LEIA, couldn't sense her Force Sensitivity. Because they weren't siblings until ESB, too. Or was that RoTJ? Edit: Also, wasn't Padme and Anakin married? Hera and Kana weren't.
@metroidnerd9001 Жыл бұрын
The Star Wars Universe may also be less consistently patriarchal with its name passage. I also think that Hera, since she knew she was going to be a single mother, thought that her kid might as well have her last name to make things less confusing to people who don’t know her past.
