"Jack Alone (In The Bar)" by Dave Grusin (perf. by Uwe Karcher)

This is coming from the "Fabulous Baker Boys" movie. The tune was never published elsewhere (CD etc) and has no title ("Jack Alone (In The Bar)" is my working title for it, because it describes the scenery in the movie). You can find it at 01:34:35 in the movie. Duration ist just a minute, but I'm always enjoying each second of it. Hope you will, too 😉

Susie Diamond just picked up flowers in the hotel lobby and see's Jack's dog come out of the elevator, nose to the floor, sniffing his way into the the ball room where Jack's playing this theme. Ah... the memories from the first time I watched this great movie. Somehow this movie puts me in the holiday mood. Will have to watch the movie tonight. Thanks for posting this! So true to the original sound! Well done!!!

Hey Tex, well described - but you mean "Jack's Theme", which I have uploaded here on KZbin, too. "Jack Alone" happens in the last days of the "Baker Boys" - not in a hotel, but in a jazz club. You'll remember when you watch it 😉

All I can say is that KZbin does not count repeat plays on it's loop setting. I have listened to this non-stop on loop for dozens of hours since it was uploaded. I can still see Jack in the bar, in the one place where he is free from the shackles of his familial obligation to his brother, and their duo that he endures though it has been slowly suffocating him for years. Here he is in his moment of freedom, pouring out his soul with every note. Your tone, the ammount of echo and sustain, is just like Grusin's in the film. This is truly outstanding. It has saved me during some dark moments amongst the pandemic madness. Thank you, thank you, thank you for it.

Thank you 😊 To answer your question: I´m playing a YAMAHA GA1 acoustic piano. I prefer a brilliant piano sound and asked the tuner to intonate my piano that way. So a piano sound is not so much a matter of size than a matter of intonation. I have searched very long to solve the problem of too much reverb in my records. The solution is to keep the piano lid closed with the mic inside fixed with tape under the lid (I use the Applied Microphone Technology M40, which is very good - Herbie Hancock is using it, too :-). The rest is traditional sound engineering 😉🎹
