No, a pocket knife. W.C handy "discovered" the blues when he was waiting at a train station and fell asleep and awakened to an old black guy playing his guitar with a pocket knife. He never heard anything like it. It was the first time he heard a blues progression and he memorized it and made the first blues recording St. Louis blues with a big band in the early 1900s

According to himself (in a more recent interview) he enjoyed playing on the road, because it let him connect with his audience and experiment with his music. You could say he's been earning his street cred on the road, like a true blues man :-D Meanwhile, 4 years on, he's now touring and getting some of the hard-earned success he's had coming! He's coming to my home town in august - I can't wait! Here's his tour schedule if you're trying to catch him: www.jackbroadbent.co.uk/tour.html

Bubbletrouser I know this was written 5 years ago but anyway I assisted on a session in a recording studio with Cheryl Cole and I can confirm she is actually very talented. When she got in the vocal booth she sang her heart out & nailed it every time. Will I Am was recording her, they must have got about 5 tracks down & there was one note out of the entire session that was ever so slightly out by a few cent (barely noticeable) and he nudged it into place with auto tune. One note! That’s pretty impressive
