Back in the late 90's, I was in college in Hilo and Paula was one of my roommates for the summer. Being a Haole FOB from the mainland, I knew little about Hawaiian culture or just living on my own in general. Paula was so genuine and kind and taught me a lot (without probably even knowing it), including the basics like how to cook smoke meat. I remember her singing while just doing everyday things around the house. I'm so happy to see all the success she has gone on to achieve.

Ha, that’s cool. My friend told me a story about her car breaking down in the middle of a Boston snowstorm one evening. She was on her way to the radio station she worked at. In rolls this vehicle and asks her if she needs a hand. It was Jack and his buddy, they were on the way to the same place for an interview. She didn’t recognize him at first cause it was pretty dark out so when he opened the trunk to put her things in she noticed a pile of his new CDs and then it clicked. Said he was one of the most normal, pleasant dudes she’s ever met.

Jack Johnson opened me to new types of music when I was deployed to Iraq in 2004 - 2006. A guy I was deployed with would play guitar and sing Jack's music when we were enjoying some down time. It kept me calm then and it still does all these years later. His music soothes the soul.

Best time ever was getting to see him in concert. He is the only artist i can call my favorite. And i listen to all genres. Music is my medicine. When thing get rough its always jack that picks me up. Been that way since i was in middle school. (When people bought physical copies). And the fact that its recycled earth freindly album cases.. just a small touch of love that brings respect for him. I tried to sneak into his vip after the concert but i was too "broke" and too noticable. What id give to have a day with him. Words and doings of good.
