A truly underrated comedy with the most delightful title ever. I love when Judy tells a cab driver she is divorcing Lemmon and he replies, "You sure got a nice day for it."

I went to this film with my (late) friend Mikey Riva and his grandmother Marlene Dietrich. We must have been seven or eight in 1955. My somewhat prudish mother thought the movie was too mature for us. I recently read that George Axelrod didn't agree with Ayn Rand much, but he liked to argue with her. Lemmon appeared later in How to Murder Your Wife another movie by that director. The building I'm in in SF has Murphy beds, still, in some of the apartments.

Sorry, but George Axelrod did not direct How to Murder Your Wife,, he wrote the screenplay. HTMYW was directed by my friend, Richard Quine, who also directed Judy Holliday in "Solid Gold Cadillac" and "Full of Life" Mr. Quine also worked with Jack Lemmon frequently, directing him in such films as Bell, Book and Candle, Operation Mad Ball, The Notorious Landlady, My Sister Eileen and It Happened to Jane, Mr. Quine was a talented, prolific but sadly frequently overlooked director. Directing was Mr. Quine's second career. As a young man he was under contract to MGM appearing in films with Judy Garland, Gene Kelly, Clark Gable and Mickey Rooney among others.

Thank you for sharing wonderful scene. It is so basic in its simple comedy. The real funny thing is one can go to any place folk are really dancing - not that robot marching stepping called "line dancing," which "dancing" for people who don't know how to let loose - to see a couple of people dancing exactly like Jack & Judy in this scene. Exactly, whether dancing together or with someone else. Funny funny scene Thank you again. donl

The movie is called “Phffft”. I think the sound word means Up in smoke, as in disappeared.

I'm looking for the movie with Jack and Judy that copies the scene where Jack Dawson always wanted to kiss a lady on the hand after seeing it done at a Nickleodeon.
