Despite his short screen time, I think Jack is one the most tragic characters in the series. And while it's unlikely, he has the potential to build upon his small scenes to have an impactful arc in a future game.
@josephstalin26062 жыл бұрын
Because of his already tragic upbringing I think his next “arc” is actually being able to live a normal life. John and Arthur weren’t so lucky but then again they still chose to live that life. Almost everything bad that happened to Jack was the result of others choices, never his own. He deserves to be able to settle down and live normal while he’s still young
@Account-ow6rz6 ай бұрын
Jack was a victim of gang violence. He had to grow up witnessing people getting murdered then the last thing he sees is his father covered in blood and bullet holes. It was a tough upbringing and I wouldn't blame him for any action he takes
@themadtitan76036 ай бұрын
@@josephstalin2606 Late reply, but if there was a Jack-lead game, I envision his arc would be ultimately for him to finally get control of his life. With a high honor path where he's finally able to heal and find a stable, peaceful life as a writer & maybe with a family. And a low honor path where he comes into his own as a new Dutch Van der Linde type in a world of organized crime in urban cities. Cementing his life tragedy by dooming him into the same fate as fellow gang members all because he happened to be born in a gang in the first place. But ultimately, it'd still be himself choosing to take that path, should the player go that route. Also I see what you're saying about Jack's life being out of his control & I agree but tbf, I'd also say so were Arthur & John's lives to an extent. They were only put into position to actively live that criminal lifestyle by their environment or parental influences in their life. John's father was this seeming drunken wanderer going from town to town and presumably starting up trouble until he got killed in a bar fight. After that John had no choice but to start stealing until he was saved by Dutch at age 11. While Arthur's was an active criminal who may've taken him around with him as he hopped towns which would make him witness to violence, threat and robbery until Lyle himself got killed. Leaving Arthur to fend off for himself the only way he's seen how until again, Dutch came into his life at age 14.

Arthur was like an uncle to him but he was sure forgotten. The real unforgotten person is his father, John Marston. Now that I think about it, RDR 2 wasn't about Arthur at all, it was about Dutch and his drifting to a psychotic personality that led to his gang's downfall
@josephstalin2606 Жыл бұрын
@@Account-ow6rzArthur is definitely not forgotten since Jack mentions him like 3 times in the epilogue which is only 4 years before rdr1s story, if Jack still remembered him when he was 12 he’ll remember him for a long time, especially since Arthur meant more to him than Dutch or Bill or Javier did, but obviously not more than his own father. I also agree that rdr2 main story was the gangs fall and the changing times, with Arthur being the lens we see it from and his own story is kind of a sub plot than a main one, hence the multiple endings since Arthur is really ambiguous and can be played any way and still be canon

Jack deserves so much more appreciation, it sucks that he gets so overshadowed by Arthur and John when his story is just as tragic, if not, more so than theirs. Arthur and John at least had people they loved with them through most of their journeys and hardships, all the way to their final days. Jack was left with absolutely nothing by the end. His entire life was shaped by the decisions of people around him, and when he's finally alone, with no one else by his side remaining.. he chooses to do the only thing he can think of since he has nothing left anymore. But on a good note, unlike Arthur and John's stories, Jack is still young and he's not living on borrowed time... so there's still hope for him, it's not too late, if he remembers everything his family, Arthur and others have sacrificed for him, then he can still try to move on and find something else to live for outside of their influences if he allows himself to. But that's entirely up to Jack whether he wants to follow down the same road or try to break free from the cycle. Killing Ross was just 1 step, fortunaly one he can still backtrack from since Ross was just a retired old man by the end. He's still an amazing character.. and while unlikely, i still hope he does live a good life down the road.

Red dead is without a doubt the greatest video game story ever told and one of the greatest pieces of literature in human history. If it was a tv series somehow it would easily surpass game of thrones, the walking dead, and breaking bad without a sweat. It is truly an American epic. Rdr2 serves to make the first game so bittersweet and ultimately tragic. So much of this series is about cycles, being unable to escape your past, of men failing against the world, and ultimately their own sin nature, or at least the consequences thereof. Arthur and John succeeded in their own ways, for what was right, for family. And poor Jack, in a way the main focus of the entire story, or rather the shining light that helps our main characters pursue redemption, as he stands for innocence and a hopeful future, takes revenge into his own hands. By choosing vengeance for his father, and in a way the rest of the gang against the government and so called “civilization”, he continues the cycle. Maybe he stops after Ross and continues his life as a writer or lawyer or as just a simple man of the land, but nothing can take back the fact that he murdered a man, regardless of that man’s character. I want to hope for an honorable Jack, but at the same time it could be that he undid all that everyone fought for. He may have become exactly what his parents didn’t want him to be. I love seeing the different takes on what happens afterwards and what the story embodies to different people. Hopefully there will be a Rdr1 remake so we can relive all of those amazing memories.

I think the few years between rdr1s ending and epilogue is a rich territory for another RDR. There's still enough "wild west" to work with, and I want to know why Abigail died so soon. I suspect revenge for killing Milton. The whole gang was informed that Abigail killed him by Arthur, so any one of them could have leaked that to the pinks. They could easily do what they did with RDR2 to give RDR1 more depth, by making that last mission killing Ross hold even more weight.

I never understood the hate for Jack post RDR1. Jack was always the tragic son to me, the only one to escape the crimes of the Van Der Linde gang. I like to think that after his revenge on Ross, Jack lived a peaceful life, never taking another soul, and wrote about his Father and Uncle Arthur, which is how we play the games today.
