Jack'O'Lantern - Halloween Pumpkin chainsaw carving

Hollowed out a pumpkin wood sculpture made mostly with a chainsaw.
From alder wood.
Missing the first 4 plunge cuts, quite obvious though, be safe!

Hey there if you wouldn't mind i got a few questions. I just started chainsaw a couple months ago and there is so much to learn. How long did it take start to finish on that pumpkin? How many batteries did you go through carving that? Did it take a lot of the battery to get through those plunge cuts or did you get through them all on one battery? I haven't done any serious hollowing out but i know it eats my battery up fast. It usually takes me 2 or 3 with my setup but i just bought a nice 15 amp corded and it rips so i can stop using the cordless so much. I've been thinking about the stihl for if i do onsite carvings in the future so i was curious about it on a project this size.. btw Awesome job on the pumpkin and I learn from your videos.

Hi, Feel free to ask any questions u have, i dont mind at all the plunge cuts on this i did with a gas chainsaw, The barsize matched the size of hole i wanted to make a little better and im always looking for excuses to break out the big chainsaw. I do think the msa 120c would do it but i imagine it taking half a battery or so with the alder wood i used and the stock bar to make the 5 cuts needed to get that little block of wood out. i wouldnt do the plunge cuts with a carving bar if i dont need to, a bar with a nose sprocket will be the best choice for something like this anyway. another thing i noticed is that the cordless saw is pretty bad at ejecting noodles, plunge cutting with the grain would likely also clog up the clutch cover a couple of times, something to keep an eye on. this would also cause extra friction and drain the battery faster. i made it over a couple of days, so im not exactly sure how many charges it took i tend to start with the ak20 and then when that is on the charger i use up the ak 30 battery. These are the only 2 batterys i have for it right now. over a 3 day period a couple of hours a day, cant be more then 6 charges but i think it is probably more like 4, most of the cuts are quite shallow, the battery does last quite a while like this and the final session was a bunch of sanding as well. i may try out to see how the stihl does the plunge cutting, if i do i will let you know how battery likes it. Mijn zus had het filmpje van de vorige pompoen gezien, wou er wel een maar dan moest ie wel hol. deskeltje hoefde niet maar dat vond ik zelf wel nodig :) dit leek me de makkelijkste en snelste manier om m uit te hollen, was alleen de camera vergeten aan te zetten bij de eerste 4 snedes. Gezichtjes voldoende online te vinden op google images, met die oogbollen erin is wel het leukst vind ik. Kan best dat iemand het zo al eerder heeft gedaan maar heb ik niet nodig gehad als voorbeeld of iets dergelijks. deze keer beetje meer pigment gebruikt.en lekker blijven aanbrengen. impregneert goed bij elzenhout, wat vanzelf ook al oranje kleurt door oxidatie. daarna nog lijnolie waxmix erover. vind t ook een mooie kleur. en puur natuur :) tot de volgende.! p.s. Dit is dan ook het laatste halloween filmpje :)
