I love the language! I went to South-Africa in December and I could understand much of what the people said/ wrote in Afrikaans. I think that's because I'm Dutch. So reading Afrikaans was quite easy. Since then I've been in love with the country, the language and Jack Parow.

Afrikaans is easier than Dutch, we Afrikaners struggle to understand Dutch.......... atleast I struggle to understand you. You people talk too fast!!! Ek verstaan amper fokkol wat julle sê nie, julle praat te vinnig vir my. I worked with a south african born Dutch girl, I struggled to understand her also. But a Dutch and Afrikaans mix....... what a language to behold, dis n befokte mengsel! fok my!!! , Dutch poeple here like to curse in Afrikaans, Aswell do English people...... Afrikaans is n taal wat aan almal hier bekend is. Veral die vloek woorde. Jou ma se kat!

Well if i hear Afrikaans i hear 80% Dutch and 20% English, so it might be a lot more than a few words that are the same. I looked it up in Wikipedia and it says it actually was Dutch, and over time is "corrupted" into Afrikaans.

Because the internet is a worldwide network and English is the internet's (and science's) Esperanto. It gives the non-Dutch- and non-Afrikaans-speaking viewers (a.k.a. almost the entire world) the opportunity to understand these comments. So the simple answer to your question 'why people are commenting in English?' is: attentiveness - the trait of being considerate and thoughtful of others. Kind regards from Amsterdam.

HAHA mijn docent uit Groningen had deze ook 2 jaar geleden gebruikt om te laten zien dat Zuid-Afrikaans veel weg heeft van het Nederlands

Why history assignment
@Ruokos_Huba
@Ruokos_Huba 3 жыл бұрын
@@africaeurope1294 Because the Dutch first colonised the southern point of Africa. Whilst learning about the Dutch history in school we also have lessons about colonialism and my teacher also gave specific lessons about the Boer people and the wars between boers and England. Boers are basically the former Dutch colonisers that is why we learned about them in school

@@africaeurope1294 And Jack Parow is a good example of how that piece of history is still relevant because in his songs he also uses Dutch words

I love Parow, but this video was the first time I ever saw what he looks like. When he turns around (the big reveal of being a cool guy... around thirty seconds or saw) with the Donald Duck hat, I started laughing so hard, that I cried. I'll stick to his music.
