For the double negative in "The jews are the men that will not be blamed for nothing"; it is something that could make sense for a French-speaking person trying to translate to English and there are theories about how Jack the Ripper could possibly be Edgar Degas. He was very misogynistic and antisemite, already had a weird relationship with sex workers in his art and would often go to England to dine at his friend's house. The theory is super interesting if you want to check it out! :) Edit: The sentence would mean something like "The jews are never blamed for their wrongdoings". As if he was angry, feeling like Jewish people were guilty of whatever and never blamed for it or something. That's the best I can make out of it 😅 (as a French speaking person)
@godwarrior3403
@godwarrior3403 27 күн бұрын
I narrow it down to two possibilities personally. I think it was saying either "The jews won't be blamed for anything!" Like a woe is me these guys get away with everything, type of mindset. Or, "When the Jews are blamed, it won't be for no reason." Basically saying whatever they get is what they deserve. I lean toward the latter being the probable meaning. I really don't think it's a language problem. Just an uneducated person saying the jews will get what's coming to them.

@edwinsolis5710 26 күн бұрын
Also the pronounciation of Jews as “Juwes” is very similar to French pronounciations. Its not just Free Mason stuff, but also how a lot of aristocrats from France write it. Furthering the theory that Jack was definitely an aristocratic man.

The “average life expectancy was 40” is a bit misleading, since it’s an average that gets pulled down a lot due to high child mortality. If you made it to your 20s in 1800s Britain the average jumped into the 60s, probably more if the killer really was someone educated and wealthy.

These days we have elevated Jack the Ripper into a boogie man. Someone on par with Michel Myers or Jason Voorhees. So much time has passed. It’s so easy to get wrapped up in the mystery of Jack the Ripper that his victims become lost in it. To hear Jacks crimes laid out, the brutality, and the circumstance that led his victims to him. It really makes the whole case hit differently. You rarely hear Annie Chapman’s husband had died. That she was caring for a disabled son and didn’t have much of a choice. You hear about her being a prostitute. Not the circumstances that led her and so many others there. Thank you guys for focusing on the woman, their lives, and not just their last moments. They were more than just Jack the Rippers victims. It’s easy to forget that in cases like these. Much love and respect to you guys. I’m glad Charlie’s crimes are finally catching up to him after all these years. It took long enough

Just to add to this - prior to decimalisation in 1971 (thus relevant to this era) British money went by £SD/LSD system inherited from the Roman Empire. By this sytems there were 3 primary units: Pounds, shillings and pence.* Pounds were divided by into 240 pennies. And there were 12 pennies per shilling - thus 20 shillings to a pound. And the abbrivation for Pounds, shillings, and pennies was L, s, and d. This comes Roman equivalents of Librum, Solids and Denarius. Indeed the pound symbol £ is a stylized L. *You bunch of other colleagal unit as well but they were mostly groups or fractions of the above main units.

I remember seeing a Jack the Ripper special where the people involved were just run of the mill (so to speak) or regular Beat Cops on both sides of the Pond. And one thing they said (b/c let's face it's never going to be "solved") that stuck with me is they seriously doubted the Ripper was a "Gentleman." B/c chaps like that tend to stick out in a crowd - especially in the areas these crimes took place. But what made MORE sense is the guy was probably a Longshoreman. A Sailor and a commercial fisherman - which would explain the expertise of the slice&dice. And these sort of men would be able to disappear in a crowd instantly.

Personally I always kind of felt like the last victim was actually killed by her boyfriend who used Jack as a cover. She was considerably younger than the others, she was killed inside instead of outside, her injuries were more animalistic and less 'refined' than the others... It just doesn't really fit with the others in my opinion. A lot of this could be explained through escalation, but it just feels to me like a very sick and angry man using a serial killer as an excuse to destroy a woman he'd come to hate.

Here's the thing, even the other victims weren't really cut up finely, from what I can tell it was someone with anatomical knowledge yes but that was probably about it, not really a master surgeon

@@carolusrex5213 Someone else in the comments mentioned that an old tv program they saw said that one more modern theory is that he was a longshoreman, a fisherman, who would have a lot of knowledge on how to slice something (or someone) up, while also being able to vanish into a crowd with ease.

I think the boyfriend was the Ripper actually, and that he committed the killings to scare her away from prostitution since he was known to disapprove of it. It could explain why the first four took place outside, and why the killer stopped after her since he'd have no more reason to continue. He also worked at the market slicing up fish.

@@carolusrex5213nobody was a “master surgeon” back then lol. It was 1880s surgery. One of the ways people sensationalize the story is by saying he had surgical precision but really that just means he had basic anatomical knowledge. All of his attacks were super violent he nearly decapitated all of them, but somebody with actual surgical or even butchers experience wouldn’t have had the majority of their attacks stopped by the spine.

The hangover thing Isaiah mentioned is actually a pretty common myth. The actual origin of hangover has roots in "remaining" or "surviving", like used in the phrase "hanging in there"

If you’re talking about record, maybe. But it’s been happening since human beings could pick up a rock and smash the other over the head. Its most certainly not a new phenomenon, but we have many more people than 1000 AD and are able to connect cases together with evidence these days that you wouldn’t be able to otherwise. My point being that I think 90% of history’s serial murders were never caught, or if they were. It was only for the crime of which they were caught. Unless the modus operandi is exactly the same, or there’s some firm connection to other killings. It was almost impossible back then other than eye witness testimony

Also on the note of "dead or drunk" this was also during the time where "for whom the bell tolls" became a thing because they were tieing bells to cadavers just in case they accidentally buried someome alive thinking someome who was comatose was dead. I also believe this was when opium dens were big.

That hangover etymology story about it coming from drunk people sleeping over a rope is actually just based on a Facebook post. The actual origin of the word is in 1904, after the end of the Victorian era, and just literally meaning the remainder of prior events (i.e. drinking the night before)

I like how they were questioning how Jack the ripper could just kill someone in the middle of the street at like 4:00 a.m. and while some people have speculated about the London fog that was happening at the same time it never even crossed their mind which is funny because it's also been reported that on a lot of the nights these bodies were discovered there wasn't a lot of fog I think that's kind of interesting

With Joseph Barnett they said the reason he did it is he didn't want her doing sex work so by killing other sex workers he thought it would get her to stop, which actually worked for a bit. Every time she returned to it he'd start again. Not only that but I think the areas he killed the sex workers were areas Mary worked as well. They said since Mary was his last victim it was plausible bc he finally had enough and killed her. I think that another reason someone could've killed the sex workers was someone that might've caught syphilis from one and then decided to take revenge. Underrated syphilis can lead to death and also causes dementia, which could also lend to someone being admitted to a psych ward. So he could've died from the syphilis if it was sometime not on the list.
