We have friend of the show Jack White back on the show today along with a legendary special guest - Neil Young! This conversation with Rick Rubin is full of fascinating ideas, asides and musical history that let you know just how deep Jack White is. Jack’s work and a business ethic is unparalleled. His label Third Man Records has a rich roster of artists and three retail stores. They also own one of the few fully operational vinyl pressing plants in the U.S. which has been working overtime to keep up with the surging demand for vinyl. Jack also released two full length albums this year, and he’s currently on a worldwide tour.
After a recent two-night stand in Los Angeles, Jack stopped by Shangri-La to talk to Rick Rubin about the early Garage Rock scene in Detroit that helped shape him and The White Stripes. He also shared potential theories about why the “Seven Nation Army” riff is so catchy. And then he treats Rick and Neil Young to an acoustic performance of his new song “A Tip From You To Me.”
And to cap it all off, we will hear exclusive details about an exciting new project Rick’s been working on with Neil Young, that will be out soon.
You can listen to a playlist that includes Jack White’s latest album, along with all of our favorite songs from him, The White Stripes, and a sampling of his many side projects here: open.spotify.com/playlist/1SY...

ABOUT BROKEN RECORD
For generations of music lovers, the liner notes on albums were a central part of the way music was heard. You bought an album and it came with an accompanying narrative: a digression, an aside, a backstory-maybe even an invented history. We intuitively understood that great music required not just listening but conversation between the artist and the audience and the audience and the rest of the world.
Broken Record is a podcast that restarts those conversations-in a world without liner notes-for a new audience of music lovers.
Broken Record is hosted by Justin Richmond with interviews by producer Rick Rubin, writer Malcolm Gladwell, and former New York Times editor Bruce Headlam.
ABOUT RICK RUBIN
In addition to being a podcast host, Frederick Jay “Rick” Rubin is an American record producer and former co-president of Columbia Records. Along with Russell Simmons, he is the co-founder of Def Jam Recordings and also established American Recordings. With the Beastie Boys, LL Cool J, Public Enemy, Geto Boys, and Run-DMC, Rick helped popularize hip-hop music.
In 2007, MTV called him “the most important producer of the last 20 years,” and the same year he was named one of Time’s 100 Most Influential People in the World.

Following the money-trail from the Quebec mosque shootings, led to a Cayman umbrella sheltering many millions of "Canadian" National Defence dollars, through Cossette Media, owned by a member of a French unilingual terrorist group FLQ ..similar to the IRA, the white supremacist Irish shame, all funded by the CIA ..Nazi war criminal-harbouring international gold reserve thieves. Silence for money, only pays till the truth is in the public domain. "YALL" need someone to check yo sh**, to stop you from wearing bloody Nazi symbols. So far, I see American rappers wearing Nazi SS Totenkopf rings. Skull n' Bones, lawless types, pirates ..French/ American slave owners (branded slaves with the Fleur de Lys) ..made one slave cut the other's extremities off for privileges, during the "Code Noire". 88 is more Nazi symbolism on a rapper, HH stands for ..some trash I will not repeat but can say it comes from Hitler and his war criminal pals in America ..Von Braun's Nazi-rocket program, hosted by "Kranz" at mission control. While my parent's generation drooled at the Moon, the Nazi war criminals were living their careers in America. RAPPERS TODAY? ..most cannot draw graffiti nor write without insulting their own intelligence. The mind is the inner-city weapon of choice, some could not hit the broad-side of a bus, most have been staring into the barrel end while helping the enemy. Melancholy... kzbin.info/www/bejne/rmbImXqOdt6emZI

Jack's speaking voice is brilliant. Love it's growly low-tone texture. Got many insights from this interview - from writing freely, no punches pulled to the Trans-Atlantic interflow of Blues and Rock&Roll and the resurgence of vinyl records. Amazing 😍

I was just listening to this podcast on Spotify. I’m at the part where Neil Young walks in…. And Jack is playing you this new song on his acoustic. I couldn’t help but feel how his voice (Jack) would compliment Neil Young’s voice pretty good I think. I almost feel like that could have been one of Neil Young’s songs or sing it together as a “duet.” Just wanted to put it out there in the Universe. 🙏🏻

R Kelly isn’t disseminating misinformation and conspiracy theories via streaming. Whataboutisms is almost always a very poor argument. Should Neil be holier than thou? Hands too clean for anything? Or are human beings limited and choose their battles. Standing up to malicious fools like Rogan, is not a bad battle to choose.
