I have a 1000 and i have been looking for the longest time on how to use my 2 50ah bluetop marine batteries to charge my jackery while boondocking! This is the first place ive seen it being done. thank you so much. my goal is to hook up solar to the bluetops to keep them topped off and have the batteries go to the jackery. Giving me more time offgrid

I would be interested to learn the specifics of have you use the AC 110 to send power to other plugs / devices. I'd like to do something similar in a small off grid shed we have - use one of those outlets to power a few ceiling lights and maybe 1 outlet, but have no idea how to do this.

I do this all the time to power apartments when the power is off and there is no meter or if the power is off and there is a “main breaker” to disconnect the buildings wiring from meter. You will see comments that I use a “suicide cord” to power my van. It is a cord with two male ends. I plug one end into the Jackery and the other into an outlet. This back feeds the circuit and powers the run. If you are not knowledgeable about home electrical do not do this! If you do this to an outlet that has power you will fry something! If you have no electrical in your shed then you could easily wire in lights and outlets and power them with your Jackery (I use an Alpa ess now). Correct wire size and circuit protection are critical. What you want to do is a great way to make your shed more usable. I have a shed at one of my rentals I wired up this way for a tenant so he could use it as a man cave. I ran SO cord (extension cord wire) from the house to the shed. It is protected by the circuit breaker the outlet in the house is on. If you are not confident have an electrician set it up for you. They could wire up lights and outlets with a cord ready to plug in.

@@CBrown07696 Thank you for this. I do not have home electrical experience other than connecting a microwave. This entire project has been learn by doing for me and that is what has been so fulfilling. This particular project is just a closed system shed 12x10. No risk of frying anything. I would like to power 6-8 RV style recessed lights with the flip of 1 of 2 switches. Our shed will have 2 doors (east and N wall); I would like a switch by each door. I have a 100ft of both red and black 12 AWG copper wire to work with. It sounds like I would use a suicide cord to outlet, then wire from outlet to a junction box then from there to my switches and lights? Our spot is in a rural, off grid area which making it one of the most out the way trips an electrician were to make for such a small job :-)

@@StaffActionJust wire the cord into a junction box and branch from there. If you want two switches to control the same lights you will need double pole (3 way switches). You will need a 3rd conductor to do that. 12/3 romex would be a better choice unless you are putting your roll wire in conduit. I assume you won’t be getting an inspection so you can do what you want. If you are powering it from a plug in cord most places don’t require anything for temporary power stuff. If done correctly it’s safe. I just talked with our local code electrical guy and a supervisor from the power company. I was powering a four plex with no meters using my Power Horse generator. Everything run through circuit breakers in the panels and they were baffled but once I walked them through it they had no issues as long as it was restored to normal wiring before the meters could be installed. Please install a smoke alarm if you will be hanging out in the shed. Good luck!

And the beauty of the cord is you can plug it into a small inverter generator and run your shed that way if you want. My little generator I made a video about will run about 14 hours on a tank of gas running lights. That is cheap portable power for a little over 1 gallon of gas.

@@CBrown07696 thank you for this! Yep, that's one reason I like the jackery for now. Can use solar and then I will use our gas generator to supplement when needed.

So, I do own a jackery 1000 and I been thinking about either add a second battery to my truck or by a jackery 2000. We go to the cape a lot to watch rocket launches that run a few days at times with scrubs and we run a Frigidaire off the Jackery ..... I'm a certified electrician also (from the old country) and some of your electrical ideas are a bit loose and scarry but still it was helpful 👍 Thanks again 👍

@@CBrown07696 ohhhhh.... Thank you for your service 👍 I did not realize anyone would care about my KZbin videos, but me and my brother are huge air and space fans and we grew up together flying model gliders and taking rides in anything with wings lol....my brother lives in the old country I'm in Jacksonville. Enjoyed your video.... 👍 I built a truck cap camper and I was searching for ideas on the electrical powering stuff in the cap camper.

Good luck on your camper! My big mistake was not making my electrical easy to get to or see. I have to open both back doors to access the Jackery to switch from shore power to the Jackery. With it mounted facing the to the right ( because it fits perfect there) I can’t see the display when the compartment is full. Good thing is if you build it you know how to fix it!

What is nice with the jackery 1500 it takes 2 inputs. So I can use the 12v and the 110 from the 400 watt inverter that is factory in my truck and that really helps to fast charge it. Literally adding the 80 + 160 for 240
@CBrown07696

I did not know that! I added a 400 watt in my van to charge while driving or on shore power and it makes a huge difference.

As I have tried to educate myself I have learned that as a rule lithium batteries charge faster than AGM batteries. It may just be the charging system on the Jackery. I would be interested to hear from other people if they also have the slow charge time on the Jackery.

Jackery makes some great solar panels. You should add it to The mix.

I may someday but for the way we travel now they would not make since for the money. We have been in south Texas for 10 days and have only gotten down to 40% one time. The solar panels would have helped keep a higher rate of charge but we really don’t need them. If I really retire this year and we change how we travel then we will load up on solar. I realize I am in the minority not being all in on solar. I think solar is awesome for many types of travel and anyone who travels in a van should definitely consider solar.

I also have the 4 100 watt solar panels. I hope to take advantage of them dry camping at state parks in the area because they don’t have electric hookups around here.

Why didn't you just get Solar at least 300 W
@CBrown07696
@CBrown07696 4 жыл бұрын
Fair question. I may get solar at some point but this battery bank gives me 104 aph for the cost of a little wire and some connectors. Remember I get the batteries for free. The solar panels seem overpriced for the power they produce. At this point I have the extra power day or night and don’t need to go through the exercise of setting up solar panels or storing them when we drive. Someone else commented that I could use solar panels other than the Jackery ones. That being said solar on the roof that would work with any future power system would be great if we start staying off grid for longer periods. For now we are normally not away from shore power for more than a couple days and we have plenty of power for that. Look for a solar add on as my wife wants to go 100% electric on appliances!

The chord you've created from the Jackery to the outlets is called a "suicide plug". Other than that the system you have seems good to go. Overly complicated but ok. The loss from using the 110 plug is drastic. You lose so much when using that. Do yourself a favor. Get a good Iceco half freezer and half fridge and go back to 12 volt strictly. Your power concerns... and your safety will be better. Please...get rid of that suicide chord.
