8:06 Fun fact, these are the same 8 Drunken Gods that Jackie Chan studies in his movie "Drunken Master". I know, I know "obviously, they're based on the same mythological figures", but I find the connection intriguing. I'm not great with the names of the Immortals/Gods, but next time you watch Drunken Master, during the training scene, in the order he trains, here's the demon they defeated. 1. Shendu, Fire 2. Bai Tsa, Water 3. Xiao Fung, Wind 4. Dai Gui, Earth 5. Po Kong, Mountain 6.Tchang Zu, Thunder 7.Hsi Wu, Sky 8. Tso Lan, Moon Edit: Feel free to take this with a grain of salt. I realized that the show actually displays the Immortals facing the demons, but it shows the immortal who defeated Dai Gui holding a fan and the Immortal who defeated Xiao Fung using a sword.

Tso Lan was always my favorite of the demon siblings. While the others were all cartoonishly growly or hissing, Tso had more of a tranquil fury thing going on, like he didn't _need_ to be big and smashy to make his point. Tso Lan also has one of my favorite exchanges: Tso Lan: "Behold my mastery of gravity." (blasts El Toro) El Toro: (levitates with the rooster talisman) "Behold my mastery of, uh..." (looks at talisman) "...Pollo." I see what you did there. Also, the reason Shendu stayed in Valmont was because the other demons stuck him to the first vessel he possessed, so they would know where to find him in the _incredibly likely_ event he tried to pull a fast one.

I love how you are covering JC Adventures, but i highly recommend you talk about the rest of season 2. Not just because they affect future season but because they are, in my opinion, some of the best episodes in the entire show. The episodes you covered are pretty much by the books but the filler episodes really felt like the writers said "Fuck it, we ball". That's where you will find the actually weird episodes. It also feels more character driven, so you get some of the best moments of the main characters here. This would also be a great time to talk about the characters more since I feel that's the heart of the show. Anyway, I hope you keep up the good work.

34:56 I think it was less so it being easy for him to possess Jackie, but if you recall it WAS his plan from the start to use Jackie's body but Valmont got in the way and Shendu possessed him instead as you explained. The caveat of this situation was Shendu's siblings allowed him to go back to the living world and enact the Pancu Box plan after placing a spell on him that LOCKED him to the first body he possessed so they could keep track of where he was since, as a spirit, he'd have been able to just jump from body to body to try and escape them if/when he failed (which he more than likely would have done). So the whole time Shendu is trapped in Valmont's body for the season and it took the original spell that banished Shendu to separate him and Valmont outside of an exorcism that I believe Uncle was trying to figure out the proper spell for.

I like how you mentioned how capable of a fighter Valmont is. he's usually played for comedy at this point in the series, but as a kid watching this show when it first aired I thought to myself, during the episode where Jackie turns into a statue "Valmont legit goes toe-to-toe with Jackie and doesn't even get hit." Kinda feels like a power rangers thing where the main villain is clearly stronger than the rangers, but they just have their minions fight em. Always wish they did more with Valmont and his abilities to be honest, because it was rare in this show to see someone best or match Jackie in many ways.

Constantly giving Jade new powers by not letting her keep talismans and having her learn Qi magic later on is so refreshing. A lot of combat style animated characters have been acting a lot like pokemong ever since power scaling got to beam struggle levels. It's nice to see a power system that isn't entirely based around combat but rather how creatively you can use the powers and to what dexterity.

With the first time Shendu tries to possess Jackie, before leaving the other demons put a spell on him to say "once you possess someone you'll be locked to that body" so that's why he was stuck in Valmont until Uncle sent him away. The second time Shendu then went to be nearer to Jackie and made sure it was a time he wasn't moving around or was likely to be knocked out of the way

JCA season 2 was always such a weird one for me as it's kinda just two whole seasons smashed together, while season 1s episode were pretty well handled with both sequential stories and light-hearted shenanigans rolled into one season 2 felt like it split those aspects into their own sub-series. While I certainly like the Demon Sorcerers arc what I remember most about season 2 was was the standalone episodes, I'm really hoping that you cover that half of the season before moving on to season 3 and I REALLY hope you continue with the show through to end because season 4 was always my personal favourite.

I remember watching this season and thinking the Moon Demon's design was way too unique for this show, especially compared to some of his demon siblings. I do agree with the villain-of-the-week episodes being a bit too formulaic. It didn't seem like there were ever stakes that were too high. Also, I'd be really interested in seeing you cover Cybersix!
@Colby2D6 ай бұрын
I was thinking maybe it was loosely based on the myths of Kaguya. And I’m definitely putting cybersix on the list. I remember it was trending online last year but I don’t remember why, I think it may have been because of how it challenged gender norms.

The part of the immortals creating the panku box but making it work like a key to the portals never made much sense to me, because when uncle banned the demons again, he explicitly said he sealed the portals forever. Why couldn't the immortals do the same in the past? Also where are the immortals, if the Chinese mythology is real, they must be in some type of heaven but never help again. The fact Shendu also escaped the netherworld with his full demon body before but never explained how before turning into a statue always bothered me because it felt like a plot hole.
@Colby2D6 ай бұрын
I’m not sure if they’ll be answered in the future seasons, but all those points are great questions. The portals never made a ton of sense to me, like if they were sealed away until the talismans came back
@marocat47496 ай бұрын
Maybe they feared it being used to trap them again?
@andrzejwanoski866 ай бұрын
@@marocat4749 they would not have to worry having to trap the demons again if they did not made the box act like a key that open portals at will and also free them. The fact Uncle is also like the best wizard in the series also bothered me. He always has a backup plan for any situation and can solve pretty much any problem. Except for japanese dark magic. Like, he sealed the demons forever instead of just sending they back again to the other dimension; he could locate all noble animals; he can block someone as powerful as Daolon Wong from entering a place, seal the dark chi warriors and even strip Wong from his powers. Wong is supposed to be even more powerful than Chi Fong who was the master of Uncle but he always loses. Uncle has very convenient magic for anything and is justified with being good at research. But who wrote all these books on magic? I also find it weird in this series that China has no apparent problem with the CCP controlling it from the countryside that is pretty much untouched from the imperial days and traditions, like magic and religion. I think in the JCA universe, China is still an Empire with a lot of folk traditions kept.
