Creating New Artwork Inspired by Existing Artwork

This video details PART 1 my creative process as I create two new paintings inspired by an existing painting. I'm working on a painting or two (TBD) for someone special and knew I wanted it/them to feel like another painting I created this year. (Here's a link to the video I created while making the original painting: • Improvised Abstract Pa... ). I set out to use the same general color palette and wonky shapes and enjoyed playing with new ways to play with similar, but different shapes and marks. I do not recreate the original painting - that was not my intention. However, I do create some interesting new paintings that are heavily influenced by the original. Stay tuned for PART 2 to see how these two paintings end up!

Even though I could not see both canvases fully all the time, I did much prefer seeing the pallet as you worked. It made it more authentic. I didn’t know I felt this way till Iimagined not being able to see it. Thank you! Great video.

Do you use straight acrylic or is the paint mixed with something?

Just acrylic usually, but I sometimes mix paint with clear gesso if they start out as bare wood panels - just to skip the step of gessoing first. ❤️
