Great Job. About time someone showed some alternative chassis member points. Everyone bangs on about the standard 6 points but I hate having a whole end up on a single middle point.

Because your jack couldn't roll as you were lifting the car , the jack stand on the other side of the car tilted onto two legs. Always make sure the jack can roll. Those jacks dont go straight up.

Thanks I usually put a sheet of thick plastic down for it to roll on but didn't have it but glad you pointed this out

There is absolutely no way as shown in this video, you should be using the front reinforcement plate near the sump or the chassis rails to to jack this car up. The reinforcement plate is hollow; made from two pieces of welded aluminium and formed into one component. These points will bend and crush under the weight of the car. Even the black cross member above the reinforcement plate is not strong enough. Don't do it.

on my pre-facelift 330i e46, it has a tubular triangle (different from the one in this video), with a jack point on it. I've used that several times it seems solid.

Hi Andy. Thanks for the video. I am jacking my e46 for the first time. Should I jack the car from the front middle then slide the axle stands on front driver and passenger side?

Hi Rav, Sorry I didn't get back to you at the time, hope you sorted it. Yes you could indeed do this, it's probably the simplest way. I couldn't get my jack under the M-sport front bumper hence this video.

The only jacking points are the four corners on next to the cills and also the main jacking point under the engine. Anything else is dangerous and will wreck your car....
