RDR2 has poor combat and even worse combat than its predecessor. The controls are terrible even on PC. Enemies can be bullet sponges and vital shots are inconsistent. Gun sway and bullet spread don’t get removed when using freeaim which makes free aiming 10x worse. Arthur is a tank and can survive 70 bullets. NPCs have aimbot and can shoot me from a mile away. Running is clunky in closed spaces as Arthur will get stuck on walls when trying to do a full circle.

I cant stand it when openworld games put you into a linear start before you get to the actual game. The same thing happened with RDR2 and it made any urge to start another playthrough die off. People hated this so much they’d put save points in their current playthroughs to load into when they wanna start a new game Its a terrible decision and its been terrible since GTA V. fr I got the game in 2019 and only played through maybe the first chapter. I wasn’t good at the actual gameplay (aiming on controller hard) and the story was really slow in the beginning. Took me nearly THREE WHOLE YEARS before i ever went back. By then of course I was spoiled about the ending, but it still hit me super hard. Lots of ugly crying. It’s been one of my favorite games since. I went back almost immediately to replay it, since the first time around I missed a lot of side quests and challenges, but now I’m in the post-Guarma section of the game and find myself not wanting to play any further for spoiler-free reasons… This is definitely a game you have to take your time with. I’ve tried watching Mark’s playthrough but all the little day to day things that you do in the game seem so tedious and boring if you’re not the one playing and feeling really connected to Arthur’s story. It would be cool to make like a highlights video of a lot of interesting or important events though

I'm ADHD AND Autistic myself, and when you're playing a high action video game when you're like me, there's so much mental stimuli right in front of you that it can genuinely give you a headache, because it's a lot harder to tune that stuff out. Another thing is super long games like RDR2 where I just can't stay focused long enough without SOMETHING changing to keep me hooked. Quick edit cuz I just remembered something: being ADHD is part of the reason I enjoy games like Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 and Forza Horizon 5 so much. it's the anti-let'splayer game. Whilst games like fnaf or happy wheels have very obvious ways to provide content for let'splayers and their audience, red dead 2 is completely based on the exploration aspect and finding things in the world that YOU enjoy, which are usually the small, amazing yet "boring" details of the game. Someone like Jack can't know if they'll find anything that'd be noteworthy to their audience in their next (usually pretty long to actually count as one, mind you) session of playing the game unless they're just rushing to play the missions and nothing else, which is a pretty bad way to play the game. I'm still impressed Markiplier managed to make a series on it. I am kinda bummed tho cuz there's literally an Irish character named exactly like Jack in the game and on my first playthrough I thought "what would Jack think?"

tbf all the three games he mentioned have huge open world environments which, if you wanna play a variety of games in a shorter amount of time, is less likely to be appealing for you. not because they're bad but because of the time sink to complete the game. funny enough people don't tend to view match-based games (valorant, fornite, etc) as too much of a time sink even tho if you take the cumulative amount of hours played in all the matches it would be fairly long too

I like to treat long games as if I'm watching a show. I play the game in episode-like increments, like if I finished a quest or two in The Outer Worlds and then decide to pick it up at a later time and repeat until I finish the game. That's how I was able to go through all 3 Shenmue games and The Outer Worlds. Some people are very good at just knocking out tens of hours of gameplay without breaking a sweat and then there's people like me that prefer to break it down to an hour or two at a time, unless it's a game that I REALLY love, then I'm willing to put more time into it each session.

I didn't like the combat, I grew to really dislike Aloy, I didn't care at all about the tribes or the civil war, there were so many fetch quests, I just couldn't do it. I couldn't bring myself to finish it. Same with Assassins Creed Odyssey, so much of it just felt like a chore. However, I did really enjoy the puzzles, hunting animals, and also the board game Strike was a LOT of fun. If there was a game dedicated just to Strike, I'd play the shit out of it. I love Fire Emblem, so it was really up my alley. Such a fun and well designed board game. Reminded me of how much I enjoyed Gwent in The Witcher 3.

Whilst I understand it from a lot of people's perspective, the reason game devs opt to make the prologue drag out a little is they tend to consider the new player experience for people who may be using that game as their starting point and just help guide them along for a bit before letting the world open up, Horizon is actually a really really good game and its visuals are top tier with a very interesting story, lore and over all world building, same goes to RDR2.

I’ve always loved games that take weeks to complete. I never had much money so I could only buy a couple games every month or two, which is why I’ve always gone for longer games (Xenoblade, Persona, JRPGs in general) and games with massive replayability (Minecraft, BOTW). I remember buying God Eater 2: Rageburst on my PS Vita just cause it claimed it had over 100+ hours of content and it cost me like 40$. For that much content it was basically a steal by my standards. And yeah, these games sure as hell would last me until my next purchase and I’d enjoy every second of it, moreso than if I bought a 6-12 hour game for half the price.

I respect his opinion. As a Huge Horizon fan I can get if ppl are not into the story especially in Fbw, considering how boring the opening part of the game iz. Still I love this franchise but some games are just not for everyone and that's okay.

That’s the thing. It’s too much game. Unless it’s a franchise I love I am always overwhelmed by the sheer scale of some games. Glad to see I’m not the only one who feels like that.

The older I get, the more I relate to the mentality. Every time I see game companies post: “bigger map, longer story, longer playtime” I’m just even less compelled to play their games. Especially when 5 hours in I’ve played every piece of the game it feels like.
