I did one random one, "Ron Weasley in Fisher Price car," wanting something like him in the red one with the yellow top that people get for their kids to run around the yard in. The AI made it look like there was a little Ron Weasley Little People figure, in a bunch of the Little People cars. If you squint at it, it really does look like it exists and someone just took pictures of it, it was insane.

I'm in Midjourney and you'll probably be fine. I'm an illustrator too but the prompts are still limited in an odd way. Especially composition is a problem, most of it is perfectly centered and rarely in an actual interesting composition. Also once it gets difficult you don't know what you're going to get. It won't work well if you need to be specific and have requirements. For example a cyberpunk neon cat with red eyes and gold earrings probably won't get red eyes and gold earrings.

I think that you, as an artist, will still be quite valuable in the world, because an AI lacks emotion and any form of emotional connection with art. Sure, they look good, but at the same time, it’s generic. Sometimes a little boring. There is no human attached to the artwork, it’s a program. Keep creating art! Don’t let some AI take what you enjoy away from you. I think the AI will be used as a tool, but not a replacement of valuable artists such as yourself

I think the most frightening thing about it is that as AI gets better at what it does, companies will ALWAYS choose it over real artists because it's cheaper and quicker. AI art will never surpass true human art, but corporations don't care about quality. just profit.

I also have dawned upon this cause there's been talk about ai generating music and I am like what if it generates the perfect metal album each time leaving us musicians nothing to do cause it has already created the best but I think ai can't generate emotions and tone so maybe if ai takes over it'll be like amazing to find a real musician like wow this person actually makes music without help at all instant recognition

Likely it just so happened that enough of the twin photos in that dataset had a baby in it, due to the reason you mentioned. I doubt the later AIs are as skewed simply because of the larger dataset. Oh and upgrades to the AI architecture ofc.

Glad to see I'm not the only one worried about how this may affect artists.. It feels like a small slap in the face to see these beautiful works of art, that would take me a long ass time to create, be able to be created by a computer in minutes. My dads art style looks very similar to the severance prompts but takes him weeks.. not to mention people who do art as a job, there may soon be less of a need to commission human artists. I'm also not excited for the amount of people were about to see who are going to claim these prompts as their original art 😅

@@pontus6444 That saddens me. I don't want to be one of those conservative types of people who are like "bah, technology does everything! Back in my day..." but with art I feel like I have to be. It's great to be able to create things so quickly, but for people who truly enjoy the act of painting itself and aren't just in it for the results, it's a serious punch to the gut that we'll have far less jobs and opportunities to do that.
@MatthewBaka

This is technological progress, it's happened since the dawn of time. Technology allows us to produce more with less labor, freeing up people to do other tasks. 99% of people used to be farmers and now only 1% are thanks to technology. At one point in time all the farmers complained about less farmers being needed, but now we have engineers, doctors, delivery drivers, programmers, so many jobs that help make our quality of life so much better. Some farmers really liked to farm but the increase in automation isn't just better for society, it's also inevitable.
@zephyr4254
@zephyr4254 Жыл бұрын
@@MatthewBaka the same logic really doesn't apply the same when it comes to art. Art is art because people make it and express things with it. Imagine an AI-generated song. It'd lack a LOT of the meaning that most music has just because a human didn't make it. Idk if you're an artist or have made art at all, but artists are concerned for both moral and practical reasons. I don't want to dump a multi-paragraph rant on you in a youtube comments section but i'd encourage you to look into the concerns that real human artists have about it.

I am a little worried that along with "oh digital art isnt real art" and "oh but digital art is just easier" now we're going to start having "Oh but now we have AI art, You're not even necessary" added to the list of comments made to digital artists almost on a consistent basis (this is seperate from the list of BS that gets told to traditional artists but that's a discussion for another day). I've already gotten the "AI will replace artists" comment once or twice around the time of the previous AI photo generation hype, and im worried people are genuinely going to think you can replace artists with AI. Maybe that's what the programmers of these AIs want for their programms too. I really hope not. I can appreciate it as its own medium, but i am worried that people are going to try and overuse it.

I honestly agree with you. While self-taught, I have spent years learning how to improve myself as an artist and still have people tell me my commissions or merch is "too expensive." Watching them go to another fellow artist who was willing to give them what they wanted for $10 vs. my $50 has been hard enough. Knowing they can eventually go to an AI generator and get it for free is even more upsetting - and genuinely depressing - for a creative person. I wouldn't worry too much. These AI only take from what already exists. If you were to give midjourney an incredibly detailed and niche prompt, it will give you a nice looking image that's missing a lot of the details you described. It mainly excels in imitating general concepts in a pleasing art style. It works well with single word prompts especially, but that's not too impressive considering they're vague prompts to begin with and thus can't really have "wrong" interpretations. Ai could take away quite literally any job after a certain time, I wouldn't worry in the grand scheme of things since either more jobs will be created in a different or new industry or there'll be some change in how money is distributed, maybe even some sort of social revolution along with it like what happened in the industrial revolution. It certainly is scary but I'd look at it from the perspective of exploring a new world more than anything (however daunting that may be).

If you live in america I actually *would* be worried about AIs taking over job markets. But in places with a social safety net you don't have to be too concerned. That said, there'll always be a need for skilled people to interpret the vague ramblings of a CEO and turn it into something actionable. Learning about AI, at least from a high level view, and how to work with it would allow you to fit such a job.

Why not learn to manipulate AI generated images to create the artwork you want? That's what I do! I'm a digital artist, music writer, and amateur 3D modeler. Learning to evolve with the tech is one of the most important ways of the modern artist imo, use that shit and squeeze the fuck outta it until you get shit. When life gives you lemons make some goddamn goodass lemonade! There's only so much detail that you can give an AI. Remember, this AI is only replicating what exists. Sure, the crazy stuff does it well, but it's not even creating something truly new, it's only building from what it has already existing. That's why you can't give it such complicated specifications, because then it'd become VERY janky.
@jayshirley8274
@jayshirley8274 2 жыл бұрын
@@exist4046 well, anything anyone has ever made is just something replicated from what they already know and what they know exists. Thats how everything works. We make stuff and things and art based on what we know, see, hear and feel/etc. Eventually AI will genuinely be able to create art just as a human would. Humans are basically just very very complex and intelligent AI or I guess you could say AI is/are just dumbed down humans but soon enough they will become just as smart and even smarter then us, eventually AI and machines will be able to do everything a human can but better AND more. The only real difference is that we are organic and that's mostly a downside because if or more like when we finally destroy our planet, we will die off while AI will continue on.

What I feel is sad about the “good” ones is that if these engines become widespread, it will become increasingly harder to value and analyze art. If you look at a digital painting made by a human, then despite the medium you can speculate on what was a the artist thinking about, what choices they made or what symbolism they wanted to portray. If you look at an AI generated painting all you can speculate on is “what was the prompt?” even if the piece looks beautiful and meaningful.
@toyguy119

While the artistic intent and the artists vision for a piece is always an interesting discussion to have, in my opinion the more important part of art and its value is how other individuals respond, what they can gleam from it, and that is still something we’d have with ai generated artwork. However it’s a moot point, as artwork made by humans isn’t ever going anywhere, even if ai generated art becomes more common alongside it.

@@toyguy119 The problem also becomes companies using AI art to cut corners and actual artists lose their jobs. Concept Designers, Illustrators, Storyboarders, Character Designers, etc, all of their jobs could be tossed because companies would rather someone sit on a computer and input prompts. That effects real people. Yeah, Ai art is cool and all, and if it ends up a seperate medium then it's completely fine and the worry will have been over nothing, but knowing the trend of companies, they'll cut any meat they can to save a pretty penny, even if they end up with an artificial replacement and the actual humans they dumped are left with nothing left to do to feed themselves. The tech is mind-blowing, but personally, I GREATLY dislike how it's being applied to art, mainly because I have a very real worry that, once it starts generating properly competent and cohesive imagery, beyond even what Midjourney is capable of, there will be a paradigm shift towards devaluing pretty much all levels of manual artistic skill, especially for those at the bottom. I cannot deny the improvement in productivity and utility it provides to many a profession, but I believe that the realm of creativity should be left to people. Maybe it's me being a hopeless idealist or someone who feels like an inadequate artist, and it's what society wants to move towards, but I maintain that, should we ever reach a point where the underlying societal systems, maintenance and dull, thankless jobs can be offloaded onto perpetually self-sustaining AI management systems, creativity will be the expression of the human experience we push towards.

These pictures are cool and all, especially the Midjourney ones, but I feel like it takes the human element out of art. Ever since cave paintings the concept of art has always been in my opinion the one thing that is so uniquely human. I’ve never really been an art nut but I’ve always appreciated the great artists and their works throughout history, and now even this oldest and most precious aspect of humanity is starting to become automated.

AI can only create from what exists, humans can make things new. People won't stop recognizing what goes into art, and artists will find ways to take whatever the AI spits out and create something else from it. Personally, Im excited for this shit, as an artist myself.

Fun fact - in the US, if it's made by an AI (or any non human), it can't be copyrighted. And technically that includes AI generated NFTs, like the apes.

i think the type of art style you would like best is called dark surrealism. surrealism is incredibly underrated and dark imagery is seldom shared through popular media unless you do a deep dive on it. there are some Very interesting stuff out there. i would start with looking up an artist names Yves Tanguy and go from there.

Whenever I first heard about Dall-e Mini, the first thought I had wasn't that this tech could get rid of artists, but that it could aid them and help bring an idea out so that they are able to really visualize it, and then do as they wish with it whenever they go to put it down and create their artwork. A simple example would be using an AI generated image as a reference of sorts and building off of it.

SAME Hel lthis is somethingi already do I will get a prompt and then run it thorugh an AI and see what it gives and then use it as a base kr referrnce in general for something to draw That could be so useful as a way to visuakize your own work or just create ideas or desigbs if you cant think of much This can be so helpful for artists

@@thebacteriawasbeatentodeath hopefully there will be people that genuinely want human made art and will appreciate the craft but kinda like you have said here and in other comments, people will just use stuff like dall-e and say they made it themselves. It really does seem unlikely that being an artist in the future will be a reliable or realistic job.
