I just love that thumbnail so much. Imagine being a BJJ specialist, you've just gotten your opponent in your signature submission and unbelievably he somehow got out. You get him in ANOTHER different submission you're also really good at and you think to yourself "right that's gotta be it, I've got him now" and then you see those piercing eyes staring directly at you.

@20:20 - Rener Gracie never says BJJ doesn't take strength... he says it reduces the importance of strength. They have some concept I forget what it's called, but basically it's like every 10 or 15 pounds heavier someone is, that's equivalent to one belt difference. But the importance of improving yourself and moving up in those belts is that it minimizes the importance of strength and size so you can close that gap.

Hooker goes in for the war most of the time, it's only this last fight he seemed to gameplan more. Forgoing the standup for the ground. I think he will try to fight smarter instead of harder now since everyone knows he's very hittable. Best to shore his defense standing if he has to keep it on the feet. Lawler’s performance against Diaz reminded me of his first fight against Hendricks. In their fight, Hendricks would unload combinations on Lawler, who would pressure, roll with punches and laugh at Hendricks. Hendricks was ahead, but Lawler’s punches were more damaging and it showed in round 3 when Lawler badly hurt Hendricks with an uppercut to Hendricks’ jaw. Lawler was more tactical in the Hendricks rematch until he unloaded on Hendricks in the final minute of the title fight, winning the close decision.

Gutsy effort by Ortega (code for "punching bag"). Keep the UFC's dream alive - Ortega can still be champ and win that Hispanic market for the UFC. Just let him get anotyher title shot, give him 2 minutes extra rest between rounds this time and dispense with that whole fighter health doctor check thing (a second time) - oh yeah and ignore that whole toes in the fence thing (again). Can anyone explain why Ortage broke away from the clinch in rounds 1 and 2? Considering how quickly he snapped the subs on when he was tired I don't understand why he seemed so adamant to avoid any grappling early?
@KoreanRambo3 жыл бұрын
Over the last 18 fights, Brian Ortega tried a takedown in only 7 of them. In those 7 fights, he succeeds with a 17% success rate on average. I don't think Brian is the type of guy to look for a lot of top control time too either unless it is handed to him on a platter. It makes sense. Not every grappler excels at every area of grappling, they know what they're good at and then double down on those skills. Out of the last 20 fights of Alex's career, he's attempted takedowns in 8; but, when looking at his resume, there appears to be a trend of takedowns being attempted every fight after July 7, 2016. Out of those 8 fights, he's come out with an average 34%. Still unable to take down Brian during their fight. But if I were in Brian's shoes, I would assume that stepping into this territory with a smaller man who is naturally lower than my hips would mean giving up a takedown. I would be fully willing to give up a takedown to chance a submission later on; but, I know this person has insane cardio and I need to give them some time to cook first.
@jimofthenorth80903 жыл бұрын
@@KoreanRambo oh absolutely I agree Ortage wouldn't be looking for top control, but he didn't even attempt to clinch and try a takedown. His wrestling is pretty thrash, but I'm surprised he didn't just try to lock up the clinch to see what Volk what do. Maybe Volks instincts kick in and he goes for a takedown himself? Just odd, especially considering how in the post fight he said that his camp been specifically training for those subs. Just had us shaking are heads :)
@KoreanRambo3 жыл бұрын
@@jimofthenorth8090 He definitely caught them when he needed to but lacked something before the finish line that just couldn't finish Alex. I'd honestly just hate to get smashed by Alex upon failing a takedown or inciting space to be closed in the initiation of a takedown on the feet in the clinch. Which is where I think Brian may have been coming from. To save energy for the submission finish later on.
