Jacksonville Fire Rescue Department responds to semi rollover with a fatality and one other trapped

JFRD responds to a highway interchange with a semi that has flipped over a guardrail and on an embankment with the driver trapped and another passenger killed in the wreck.
This was a tricky extrication requiring the Special Operations team on hand to assist crews with freeing the trapped driver. Once the driver was freed, efforts needed to be shifted to removing the passenger who unfortunately was deceased.

Can I ask what a Special Operations Team is? Do they have extra training for extractions or more training then regular Fire Rescue ? I am completely impressed with what you heroes do and thankful to have emergency responders that are so well trained! They saved my Mom here in Columbus Oh after she had 2 strokes and were so quick she had minimal long term damage! So thank you all so very much for everything you do!! Your the guys and gals running in when everyone else is running out ....so much respect!!

EMS here. I noticed that your Coroner was not in any of your footage, are they responsible for removing the deceased? Fatalities are so hard on Fire, EMS, and families, because we never have the answers to the questions to why?

Because of the complicated positioning/entrapment, our crews actually removed this one

My husband is a big rig driver and although he’s rated as his company’s top driver with an impeccable safety rating, it’s people in cars and other truck drivers I worry about! No idea what happened, but maybe the driver took that turn too fast. Condolences to the family and friends of the woman killed. Sad and tragic combined 🥺😓🙏🏻 Rest in peace.

I don’t understand. Two firefighters are wearing sterile gloves, presumably to tend to the patient. Then, why did they put their gloved hands on the dirty guard rail. Doesn’t that contaminate the gloves and defeat their purpose?

The gloves are to protect them from body fluids.

they are not attempting to be sterile...we are not in a hospital environment...what we are trying to do is to protect ourselves from blood born pathogens and these gloves are part of our PPE (personal protective equipment)

@@thejfrd2490 I've been a FF/EMT for over three decades and we have more uniformed personnel now than ever before and IMHO the more eyes, the more ideas, better safety for everyone. They catch things we may not be concentrating on.
