Not all of them actually, weirdly enough, the first REALLY violent thing in DBZ from Saiyan saga is in the game, Nappa still cuts of half of Tien's forearm Which is why this is so damn weird, they left that in which arguably is pretty high on the disturbing meter, he just cuts half of his forearm cleanly off with a punch like it's nothing, and in fact, you see holes in Goku's and Raditzes chests after Piccolo's SBC, these two were left in, but everything after that? Yea, it's gone, but why?

I'm sure others already mentioned but 17 and 18 are technically cyborgs not andriods so they don't really have any form of "programing" that insists for them to kill goku. They just seem to want to do it because they can. 16 however is actually a full on robot and is the only one where he is fully programmed to kill Goku.

Actually, they do have programming, Gero just chooses not to utilize it because exerting too much of his influence on their behavior decreases their overall level of power. That’s part of why they were noticeably weaker in the future timeline: after Gero got news of Goku’s death, he repurposed 17 & 18 to take over the world, and to that end, programmed into them a hatred for humanity. This resulted in them becoming weaker, but far more heartless.

A lot of stuff has been censored or changed, apparently. The core moments are still there, and the overall story as well, but the anime was much more brutal. For example, Android 17 actually decapitates Dr. Gero with a kick and Android 18 breaks both of Vegeta's arms. That said, I love this series, and I would love it if you would post more often.

well thats some kind of mistranslation in the US, 17 and 18 are Cyborgs not Androids meaning Cybernetically Enhanced Humans, the other 3 are Androids meaning Human looking Robots, 20/Gero has his Brain inside so count that however you want

The actual translation would be "Artificial Humans" yes. It does not make sense because indeed Gero, 17 and 18 are cyborgs of diff kinds: 17 and 18 are modified down to their very cells while Gero just slapped his brain into a robot body duplicate of his own

Yeah, in Japanese they are called "artificial human" (人造人間 jinzou ningen), which can be both cyborg AND android, since it's a broader term. The Japanese text doesn't really make any distinction between any of the numbered androids, nor even Cell, for that matter. The Androids all have something unique about them. Android 8 (who we meet OG Dragon Ball) is supposed to be strong compared to Kid Goku at the time, but has a fatal flaw of not liking fighting and being very kind. Gero and 19 were energy absorbing models, 17 and 18 have infinite energy reserves, however because they were formally humans, they have free will and think for themselves, Gero was trying to correct this which is why they were shut down. 16 is pure robot, purely programmed to defeat Goku...but you'll see more on him later, all I'll say is the 16 is modeled after Gero's son. There's some Androids that only appear in movies, such as the movie "Super Android 13". You have 14 and 15 which are nothing special, however 13 is able to combine their power cells and microchips and transform.

They aren't androids in the sense they're completely robotic, they were normal humans beings that were augmented with robotics by Dr Gero. He kidnapped them for these experiments. Technically they're cyborgs (mix of human and robot) not androids (purely mechanical). They have devices in them that perpetually create energy, in other words, they do not get tired like living things. However, unlike living things, they cannot get stronger either. They do not have programming, they have complete free will to do whatever they want. Even Android 16, who is entirely robotic and actually is an android, has some free will to a certain degree

Excellent content as always. I'm so glad you're posting longer episodes. The android arc has a lot of mystery. Not just regarding why events have deviated from Trunks's timeline, but also about the characters' motivations. The first time we experienced the story, we were constantly in the dark about what the androids were going to do next. What goals do they have, other than killing Goku? What happens in the future that results in someone coming from even *futher* in the future and arriving even *further* in the past? I'm excited to experience it again with you!

2 things to note with the androids 1: While in the english versions they are called androids in japanese theyre referred to as Cyborgs which is equally funny since 16 and 19 are androids while the rest are cyborgs. 2: Android 17 and 18 were regular human twins kidnapped and experimented on by Gero. Also Android 16's design is based on Gero's Son who died when Goku eradicated the entire Red Ribbon Army as a child.

17 and 18 are indeed "different" here: more powerful, but less brainwashed/evil than in Trunk's timeline. Gero didn't want to use them in "our" timeline because they were incontrollable. Also, in both timelines 18 and 17 are particular creations for Gero, as they aren't really androids by cyborgs, they were humans before. I don't remember why Gero didn't want to use 16, but I remember that android to be very calm, and to not enjoy violence. That may be the reason, but it's still weird as he would still kill Goku at any price, he was completely programmed for it. 18 and 17 are more free, especially the two from this timeline.

Couple things, 1. 16 is modeled after gero's son who was killed by goku in an attack on a red ribbon base (this was never explicitly shown or said in either ball or z until recently and briefly explored in fighterz) 2. 17 and 18 were human and siblings that were forced to become biodroids their names used to be lapis and lazuli based off gems (android for them was a translation error but people got used to it and kept it )

Fun fact if anyone or Jack didn't know: Android 16 is actually designed based on Android 20/Dr. Gero's own son, meaning that maybe something happened to Dr. Gero's son (own head canon here, btw, only speculation on my end) and Dr. Gero created Android 16 based on his own son's appearance. The book in the game on the characters actually have a lot of fun and interesting secrets you can get on them, all of them I think are canon as well, I have no clue though, but I think this game is meant to add some tidbits to the series lore, like fill in some plotholes or just fill it with more stories, stuff like that, I may be wrong though.

When Goku died from the heart virus in Trunks timeline, Dr. Gero (Android 20) had no reason to finish programming Android 16. However, in this current timeline we can see that he is made due to Goku being alive up until the heart virus kicked in on the day of Android arrivals.

the whole android thing is a misnomer, 17 and 18 are cyborgs, humans augmented with cybernetics. android is a very specific thing, the actual term used in the original material was artificial human, which was a broader term that could mean just about anything. it annoys me when localization fucks shit up like that.

If he watches the show (which has 100 × more emotional impact than the majority of cutscenes in Kakarot) it's better to see it without knowing that those impactful moments are coming. When Frieza got cut by his own kienzan I'd say it was decently represented here, but there were so many of those intense scenes that weren't.
