That fight was a bit more bloody than shown in the game for obvious reasons. Piccolo ripped his out arm off and had red blood. Goku kept fighting even with the hole in his chest and piccolo elbowed/stomped him in the wound. And piccolo broke both of goku's legs using his knees. OG DB just didn't care i guess😅

During this tournament. Goku guessed Shen (Hero) true identity, freed Kami of the bottle, guessed the true consequence of killing Piccolo. Also he didn't just spare Piccolo, he sensed the change. After all the king Piccolo would have never entered the tournament. He even gave respect to Krillin. And I left aside the pure battle smart like knowing Tien's weaknesses.

For the most part the pink spots are on squishier parts of the body (shoulder, bicep, abs, etc) and I feel like this implies his knees are also squishy which is gross to think about. Yeahyeahyeah. In the manga Goku isn't exactly "dumb". He's only clueless at first because he lived in the mountains and only ever knew his grandpa; Bulma was literally the first other person he ever saw. He always remains a bit of a country guy with an "unrefined" dialect, but that's about it. Roshi even taught him to read and count past ten when he first trained him. It was just lack of opportunities. Toei just turned the "Goku is dumb" dial up to 11 whenever they made anime-only content, and you can see how that's kind of stuck to this day. Even in _Battle of Gods_ Goku felt more manga accurate than _Dragon Ball Super_ Goku, if you ask me. Toei does this to other characters, too; I'd argue that Chichi is much more reasonable in the manga than the anime.

Goku can be a step ahead of everyone in terms of smart in Dragon Ball Z too, that wasn't the only time. Super just decided to make him abit dumber is all which fans really didn't liked, lol XD Both Dragon Ball OG and Z was so good thanks to the amount of character growth he had, and that's precisely why there's complaint with both GT and Super since they decided to tone Goku down instead. Lol XD The thing about Goku is that he grew up on the woods, with no one to teach him about the outside world. And was taught about there being good in people. So his not that smart like Shikamaru, but very smart when fighting is involved, including Kami cause he knew thanks to the sensing technique he learned. Lol XD

That Goku was dumbed down is a misconception. If anything, Goku in Super is more true to how he was portrayed in OG Dragon Ball than in Z. Z's stakes were higher, more serious and more personal than anything in either OG Dragon Ball or Z. The only time OG Dragon Ball got anywhere close to that serious was the King Piccolo Arc after the deaths of Krillin, Roshi and Chioztsu. Not to mention the deaths of Tambourine, Cymbal and Drum- who were all killed by Goku and Yajarobi. While King Piccolo was a world threat- few people ever saw him directly. In fact, only Roshi, Tien, Chioztsu, Yajarobi and Goku really ever saw King Piccolo. Most of the destruction he caused was done by Tambourine- including the Death of Krillin and the destruction of the original Flying Nimbus. Things got especially tense after King Piccolo killed the Eternal Dragon after wishing for Eternal Youth. That's why King Piccolo looks like a cross between Piccolo Jr and Kami. Before his wish- he looked exactly like Kami.
