Great video man. Love your stuff. Don’t listen to the guys telling you your videos are too complicated. There are plenty of beginner videos on YT and in my opinion not enough advance ones like you’re making. Keep at it! 👍

Awesome!! AND I am 70 years old with a 50 year history of playing professionally for a living - THIS is exactly what I enjoy about playing bass...I'v been told I "sound like Jaco" ...had some Kuru-isms happening but BUT this is the real deal! thanks

pentatonics became a lot more interesting for me when i began to start them on different degrees of the scale. for instance a G pent or a B pent over an Fmaj7.
@alanstjohns6 жыл бұрын
At my ripe old age, I've only just learnt the pentatonic scale, so this video is beyond me at the moment - but I'm going to bookmark and come back to it every so often (... I love the way he says "right!!!!" :)

@ricardopedrosa313 жыл бұрын
A great way of getting another tool, using the approach of sequences of intervals....you can just pop an interval on a certain scale and repeat it going up 3rds you get killer sounds. And you rock man, also showing the struggle of getting it, no finished up, mixed and mastered, produced piece shows the "ugg almost there" feeling when you practice, climbing up. That is really the Jaco major pentatonic sound deconstructed as a practice routine with the cromatic touches here and there. great stuff. Cheers and thank you for the inspiration, I'm going to add this to my routines!!

that tone man..how did you set it up?
@RichardKelleyMD2 жыл бұрын
I'm wondering the same thing. So fat and round. My tone sounds nothing like that!
@BleuShan2 жыл бұрын
That tone is mainly done by plucking close to the bridge pickup and having a pickup balance favoring the bridge pick up. EQ should be mostly flat with maybe a slight bump in the 250-450hz range if it sounds a tad too thin in the low mid range. Also having a compressor pedal and a Jazz bass also helps bring that growly attack he has in his tone.

Hi Anthony, Your videos are Great. I loved them. I have tried to wwrite down the fingerings for the Major and Minor pentatonics that you are playing but due to the speed of your execution I can not see the fingering. Do you have a particular fingering or shape for those scales? Thanks in advance.

Hey man, great video! I really dig what you were saying about leaving space in 16th notes. The problem i have with most modern players is they play great and are unbelievable talents, but there playing all the time. There's no space in the playing! I'd say with the exception of players like Marcus Miller and Pino that this is a problematic trend among the modern bass player.
@AnthonyMuthurajah6 жыл бұрын
The perception of playing with space is already jarred to begin with. I always refer to breathing as the best means of phrasing but apparently, some guys can hold their breath for minutes at a time hahahaha Thanks for your comment and support. Cheers
@gray-68356 жыл бұрын
Oh yeah Jaco defo represents that, i always dug that solo on Donna Lee he does, i think it might be 1982 with a stripped down word of mouth ensemble. He literally plays like 2 notes over an entire rotation but it's so effective....
@AnthonyMuthurajah6 жыл бұрын
All Jaco needed to do was just stand and not even play. The guy is the music. Such a shameful loss. RIP
