In the books Rosalie couldn't care less about Bella, she only "protects" Bella because she wants Renessme because she could never have children herself. It seems sweet but when you know Rosalie's true intentions it becomes dark, heck I'm sure if Bella died during childbirth Rosalie wouldn't have really cared since it would mean she would get Renessme all to herself. Rosalie was lowkey selfish due to her own trauma. It's easy to feel bad for her but nothing about her intentions about Bella and Renessme is sweet.

That’s true, however Edward lost that stance though when he went to the Volturi to kill him when he thought Bella was dead. The only reason Bella is alive and pregnant is due to Alice’s vision of Bella being immortal, so Edward no longer had a choice. If the Volturi knew he was actively avoiding giving her immortality, they would probably kill her and the rest of the Cullens
