Which was not only hypocrisy, it was lousy financial advice. An IFA of my acquaintance was telling his clients to switch their investments into € and $ denominated ISA investments in the weeks BEFORE the referendum when it had become obvious that the result was going to be at best close. His logic - which was not only simple but turned out to be right - was that if “leave” won it would be a “seismic economic uncertainty event”. Markets, as we know, hate uncertainty above all things - so the £ would crater. That would mean that the £ value of the investments you now held in € and $ would increase by the devaluation of the £. You could then either sell the investments and buy back £ denominated investments, increasing your ISA pot by about 20% within weeks - or you could decide that as the U.K. had lost its economic mind you were going to live somewhere more rational and would have the forex funds to do so.

@@SimonDenslow oh yeah? Really? So let me get this straight yeah? Construction costs have risen considerably, mainly to shortage of skilled workers, increased materials costs, the industry is under pressure to adapt to new trading agreements and reduction from from Labour from the EU, which has led to further delays and increased costs, Access to funding, Uncertainty in the industry. There’s not much point in having higher wages if the industry can’t plan and invest for the future, thus the problem enabling delays, and cancellations of projects, leading to a drop in productivity and profitability. The issues against far out weigh the benefits like higher wages.

I keep reminding everyone who seek to object to ANY future Referendum in relation to the EU. that after the very first referendum in 1970s when UK voted to join EEC, the likes of Peter Lillie, John Redwood and JR-M all demanded a second referendum. So if they could demand a second referendum, there is equal justification for yet another referendum any time soon. Hoist by your own petard me J R-M methinks!
@Lawrence4000-s3k
@Lawrence4000-s3k 12 сағат бұрын
But there clearly won't be a second referendum any time soon. It would take at least 10 years to rejoin and how do you win a referendum when we'd have to join the Euro and pay eye-watering net payments? And then there's uncontrolled immigration, laws being imposed by an increasingly right-wing EU, etc.. It won't happen.
@threepot900
@threepot900 4 сағат бұрын
The trouble is they would demand a 65% + for the yes vote to make it valid, while the same old tired cliches about sovereignty and brown people invading because the perfidious French surrender monkeys won’t pull their weight would be broadcast by the same tired liers, backed by the same dark money with extra help from Putin and China - and possibly Nth Korea and the Middle East ?- with their bots and troll farms shit stirring just for the hell of it. I’m not sure you’d even get a 60/40 split because enough idiots still listen to Jacob ‘please can I have another Nanny’ Mogg, the Badly thatched walrus of lust and Mr Toad, although Clacton might sound a warning about his motives. You really would have to motivate the 30% who didn’t bother voting the last time, and I’m afraid many would be just as bored and indolent as second time round.

But they would have to do so without English subsidies (they would have to impose border controls on England and while we're a generous bunch we're not daft).

As far as I can recall the highlight of John Redwood’s career was, while Welsh Minister, miming, badly, the Welsh National anthem.

Those two Tory experts will never admit any wrongdoing. And for them Brexit did work, they have grown their bank accounts significantly by it. Admitting any wrongdoing/lies would reduce their efficiency in continued profiteering.

Why do people on the left of arguments constantly feel the need to raise their voice when articulating their opinions? It doesn't provide integrity to those opinions (the same applies to opposing opinions), it simply conveys an obnoxious bias to the listener, providing significantly less incentive to consider the opinion being articulated.

Both of those guys before the referendum: “Brexit is going to make us all rich!” Both of them after the referendum : “Oops! Everyone, quickly, move all of your wealth overseas before the country dissolves!” Vile, ghoulish, evil men. These ambulatory tumours destroyed far too many livelihoods and lives.
