Which was not only hypocrisy, it was lousy financial advice. An IFA of my acquaintance was telling his clients to switch their investments into € and $ denominated ISA investments in the weeks BEFORE the referendum when it had become obvious that the result was going to be at best close. His logic - which was not only simple but turned out to be right - was that if “leave” won it would be a “seismic economic uncertainty event”. Markets, as we know, hate uncertainty above all things - so the £ would crater. That would mean that the £ value of the investments you now held in € and $ would increase by the devaluation of the £. You could then either sell the investments and buy back £ denominated investments, increasing your ISA pot by about 20% within weeks - or you could decide that as the U.K. had lost its economic mind you were going to live somewhere more rational and would have the forex funds to do so.

I keep reminding everyone who seek to object to ANY future Referendum in relation to the EU. that after the very first referendum in 1970s when UK voted to join EEC, the likes of Peter Lillie, John Redwood and JR-M all demanded a second referendum. So if they could demand a second referendum, there is equal justification for yet another referendum any time soon. Hoist by your own petard me J R-M methinks!
@Lawrence4000-s3k12 сағат бұрын
But there clearly won't be a second referendum any time soon. It would take at least 10 years to rejoin and how do you win a referendum when we'd have to join the Euro and pay eye-watering net payments? And then there's uncontrolled immigration, laws being imposed by an increasingly right-wing EU, etc.. It won't happen.

I’m not sure you’d even get a 60/40 split because enough idiots still listen to Jacob ‘please can I have another Nanny’ Mogg, the Badly thatched walrus of lust and Mr Toad, although Clacton might sound a warning about his motives.
