18th Century-Mogg is something of a paradox, he dresses very smartly and speaks the King's English as poshly as any aristocrat but just look at how he slumbers back in his bench. Also, consider this he proclaims to love the UK but would rather live in the Republic of Ireland and clearly thought nothing of selling the UK electorate down the river and trying to pull the wool over their eyes by urging them to vote for Brexit. I personally have yet to see one single tangible benefit from Brexit.

Far too many in this government are prepared to defend the indefensible. When Sue Gray was appointed, they all supported her and said "wait for her enquiry". Then when it arrived, they tried their level best to undermine her impartiality. Similarly with this enquiry, they were very happy to appoint and support those that sat on it, with I think a majority of government ministers. Then again, when they didn't like the conclusions drawn, they've been doing everything they can to try and make people question what was discovered. They're all absolute snakes, the sooner each and every one of them are no longer MP's the stronger our democracy will be. Never thought we'd see our parliament reduced to something similar to what Trump would do or say.

Boris Johnson knew about the parties, attended some of the parties and then lied through his teeth to the House of Commons and the public at large. The idea that any decent person can vote Tory is frankly laughable. I'm not saying vote SNP, or Labour or Lib Dem. But how can anyone vote Tory and not think "Man, I'm a complete tosser"? It's not 'the government' that need be satisfied on the perception of impartiality in a trial with obvious political implications - it's the accused and the average person in the street. This was not merely a 'perception' of impartiality, this was a series of public statements that, showed Harman to be unequivocally partial. The head judge on this committee stated on several occasions she believed Boris was guilty, before she heard any of the hearing evidence. There's no escaping the absolute reality that, this situation constitutes 'judicial prejudice' and is the very definition of a 'kangaroo court'.

Lord Hoffmann was accused of being biased against General Pinochet when the Law Lords ruled that he could be extradited to Spain. The ruling is that he wasn't biased, but his membership of Amnesty International meant that he could appear to be biased. Almost every MP is elected in a partisan contest, so if partisan “bias” disqualifies a member from sitting on a committee such as this, it becomes virtually impossible for the House to police itself. The only way you might be able to do it is to have the Speaker handle these cases single-handedly, which creates major problems in its own right.

I do have an honest question. If Labour ever get back in, will PoliticsJOE ever take them to task for anything, or will they just start to shill for them? I ask this because every person they seem to platform in an interview and every video is always firmly left, firmly socialist. Linker, Sanders, Kumar, wealth inequality, corporations bad, Starmer great, Mogg owned, every mashup mocking conservatives etc. I want to know because I typically don't listen to the opinion of any source with such an obvious bias and prefer ones that are objective and balanced in their coverage rather than ones that are partisan because you just know you won't be getting the full picture from them.

Hardly a mic drop moment! If one is involved in proceedings of a similar nature, say before a court, and the judge has published Tweets which create a perception of bias on his part, it is entirely irrelevant that the government has confidence in his impartiality; the only relevant question is do the parties who are before the judge have confidence in him and, if not, should he refuse himself due to the perception of bias? In this case, I doubt the person at the centre of the proceedings - Boris Johnson - had confidence in the impartiality of this particular chair in light of her tweets; and I suspect that many reasonable people reading her tweets would have shared his doubts. So I think applying the test to which JRM refers, she ought to have recused herself. The outcome would likely have been the same but at least the fairness of the proceedings would not have been in doubt.

The 'Hoffman test' analogy is nonsensical - Lord Hoffman, a brilliant judge, heard a case in which Amnesty International was involved when he personally was involved with Amnesty. A rare, possibly unique, mistake by Lord Hoffman, and not analogous at all to the Johnson enquiry. One more example of how mediocre, under the suit and posh voice, Mogg actually is.

She was also appointed because the previous chair though himself biased in this matter and stood aside. The very context of her appointment was to avoid bias and the perception of it. Rees-Mogg might not recognise integrity because the groups he tends to associate with act very differently.
