This is a beautiful movie. It's also one of the most frightening, but underlying the grotesque nature of it all is a truly heartfelt and meaningful message. A one of a kind horror movie.
@PotawatomiThunderNew4 жыл бұрын
It’s kind of a tearjerker. I hope I’m not coming off like I’m too soft, but I’m not gonna lie, the end made my eyes start watering. The part where his son comes to him and they go up together. This is a rare breed of a movie. A sad/emotional Horror story. 2 different types of moods that rarely overlap.

It's best looked at as something other than a horror movie. That's what a lot of people don't get about it. The movie is an adaptation of the Tibetan Book of the Dead, ancient Buddhist scripture. And I have to say it is frighteningly accurate. I've come as close as you could to dying without permanent cardiac arrest and this is what it's like. It can be heaven or hell depending on your perspective in the moment, but the more you try to fight it the more hellish it becomes. That book tries to teach you to let go, just like Danny's character is doing for Jacob here You have to recognize your situation and accept it. Sounds simple, but in this state it is anything but. You have no idea what's going on and what you are seeing is more real than "reality" itself feels. Bardo Thodol (the book) translates to, "The art of hearing/seeing in the intermediate state" IIRC. It's an apt name because getting out of this state isn't about remembering what you've read or been taught, it's about intuitively recognizing your situation without consciously realizing it. To this day I'm still not 100% sure that I'm "alive" or "here" anymore, that's how real these experiences (or hallucinations depending on how you want to look at it) were

I first watched this movie while in NYC during a weekend break from this training me and one colleague went to in the US back in 2013. We stayed in the now defunct Hotel Pennsylvania. Something about the derelict hotel compelled me to watch this movie. Little did I know how significant it's spiritual message and the power of these lines would mean to me years later when having to battle add1ctions to w33d and women and my inner demons. Right now I am going through a crisis but now I know God gives the hardest battles to His best soldiers. God bless everyone.

For the past two years, I have been having intense spiritual/near-death experiences where I became aware that this physical world is not the true reality but an illusion. That I am part of something infinite, but for whatever reason, compartmentalized here.

This scene and what Danny said about eckart , launched me straight to the midtown research library to find more info on the subject. This was before the net and laptops much less smartphones . At the time I was reading Carlos castaneda and Wayne Dyer , and Joseph campbells work. When I saw this film I was just starting to study theology and spirituality alternatives to my own Torah and new testament but I knew There was more to know. After the divinci code hit the theaters we were all open to alternative ways of seeing conventional belief systems. It was about that time I started studying freemasonry and doing full time study of the esoteric roots of mainstream Religions. Jacob's ladder was not only a great film but marked a turning point in my life. I've been offered a position as a reverend in a Christian church but I had to decline. People are the most destructive thing on the planet. The gnostic understood this all too well , the cathars were wiped out. I dont care much for organized religion.

DMT is a joke compared to really entering this state. I've been through both. DMT is like a cheap synthetic approximation of what Buddhism calls "the intermediate state". Actually, high-dose Psilocybin is far closer experientially to passing beyond "life" but not quite dying. It doesn't make sense because DMT is endogenous while Psilocybin is not, but that's how it is. Then again, the one thing I learned from both hallucinogens and dying was that our conceptions of reality and science don't really make sense
@jakeg3733 Жыл бұрын
@@JCTelenio It really is relative, and it's an illusion. When I came out of a coma a few years back I didn't "wake up", rather I had the distinct impression that I was moving from one dream to another and I've just happened to stay in this little world since that time
