I am a Rangers fan, and even I thought Trouba was going to take a 5 minute major. I thought we would have a 7 minute penalty (5 minute major for elbowing Rodrigues, and 2 for the previous one for hooking), potentially allowing us to lose Game 3. I was shocked that it was just 2 minutes, and even more that Goodrow scored a shorthanded goal out of it. We barely came back to just steal the game in overtime, but I know Florida fans will say that this controversial call is why the Panthers lost Game 3. I wouldn't blame those fans though. Sure, Trouba would get fined, so he DID face punishment, but still. Something tells me it was a makeup call for calling Kulikov's dirty hit against Wennberg the previous game a 2 minute penalty instead of a 5 minute major. We're even I guess? Mission accomplished?

But Dimitry Koulikov should have been hit with a major as well for his hit on Wenninger who did not have the puck and Koulikv made more contact with the head than Trouba did on Rodrigues.

If you look at one angle, the last one shown, you can see his elbow hit his shoulder mostly, the refs got the call right, for once, it may have been an intentional elbowing penalty but it wasn’t head hunting which merits a major penalty.

Rodrigues looked like he was shot with a bazooka in the head, rolling around like he was dying. 2 minutes later, he took his regular shift. He was NEVER hit in the head. Yes, an attempt was made with an elbow and yes Trouba should be given a penalty. But Rodrigues is embellishing the hit. He looked like a soccer player. If he was actually hit in the head, wouldn't he be out of the game for concussion protocol. He was back out there , on the power play from Trouba's penalty. Too many Golden Globe winners on Florida. Well…. Was it the best hit? No but consider the following: Trouba was mostly away from Rodriguez, Rodriguez gave what appeared to be a command performance as he lay ‘motionless’ on the ice, Rodriguez didn’t seem to need any attention and didn’t miss a shift. Not even the veteran NHLrs commentating for ESPN thought it was as a game ejecting play. As for Maurice’s comment regarding the $5k fine, well i guess it’s easier than pointing out how his star team on ice completely flubbed the play that allowed Wennberg to be alone with the goalie. That’s hockey.

DOPS is weak and something needs to be done now before someone gets a severe life altering injury again. We had a guy die in another league because he wasn't wearing a neckguard. DOPS does nothing and isn't being proactive to protect players. Players are throwing elbows, sucker punches, and crosschecks to the neck. DOPS does nothing, or throws a pittance $5000 fine. DOPS doesn't care about player safety. They WANT players to get hurt. And it should be obvious if you take some time to look at who leads it.
